i would like to run two separate Monitors out of one thunder bolt from IMac. Will this splitter make it work to where I can set them both to display different things ?

No, a cable splitter will not enable you to run different screens. The purpose of the splitter is to allow you to switch the same information between two different screens (you cannot show both screens at the same time either.
