Update to my answer, I was using a 3.5 and 5.25 drives on the Windows machines, my bad. I was using a 2.5" SSD on the MacBook Pro, worked as designed. Downloaded Super Duper (free) to clone, also worked fine. Just an FYI, the license for MS Office 2011 was NOT transferred, had to reenter Product key. I believe that is an Apple thing, something about the key being matched to the hardware? Also tried Carbon Copy Clone, copied for an hour and 45 minutes then rudely told me the license was not valid, was using trial. That's when I pulled this tool out (forgot I purchased it) and finished the job, should have used it first.

does this cable support SATA 300?

I've had no problems using with 3.5" and 2.5" SATA drives. I have not used with the newer SATA 3.0 / 600 drives so I cannot say if there would be any issues there.

can I connect this to usb 2.0?

Yes I do it all the time.  SATA 3.0 is all downwardly compatible to SATA 2.0 and 1.0, and same with USB 3.0 is downwardly compatible with 2.0, 1.1, & 1.0, they just take longer to transfer !

Yes the cable works to access other SATA drives without the cloning software.
BUT be aware you may never get the rebate from Apricorn because of the way Inmar handles their rebates! Good luck with that.

No, 3.5-inch hard drives require external power. Also the adapter will not work. You can use the software to clone the drive into another 3.5-inch HDD or 2.5-inch SSD mounting both drives inside your desktop computer case.

Does this work with Windows 8.1?

Yes this will work with Windows 8.1. The EZgig software does not work that well with a UEFI bios. If your motherboard has a UEFI bios, I would suggest purchasing this with a Samsung Evo ssd, and using the data migration software obtainable on the Samsung site. If your motherboard bios is not UEFI, then this kit will work as advertized. Newer PC's and laptops usually have the UEFI bios. Check with you motherboard manufacturer.

Does the cloning software ensure proper alignment between your HDD and SSD?

it makes an exact copy seamlessly. no queries regarding alignment were displayed. make sure you are connected through apricorn's website for the latest version of the software and make sure you have their device connected. software will not run if the device is not connected.

Will this work with windows 10?

Sure USB is fully backward compatible, so Win 10 and any other OS that uses USB ports will be able to see the external drive.

Now whether Windows 10 will be able to access the files on the drive depends on the type of disk partition used to create that disk - there are some types of partitions that are specific to the major operating systems like Mac Windows Linux etc.

These days, there are partitions that are more and more readable across the different OS out there.   And Windows 10 should be able to recognize most any older Windows partition/disk.

So I'm building my first gaming rig and I've been using my windows partition on my Macbook, it's got Steam, Origin and other stuff. Any way you can transfer just the window partition over to a new hard drive? Possibly including the OS itself?
