can I use it for GTX 1080? Is there a limitation?

This extender should support PCI Express 3.0 at x16 mode, so it should certainly provide enough bandwidth to use any of the latest graphics cards. You will want to be careful if you are buying this for heat issues with a 2nd graphics card however -- this cable will add latency ( however minor ) to the connection which can cause issues with SLI. If you have two graphics cards I would recommend buying and using two of these, to keep connection latencies the same.

I heard people where having problems with this being able to work with Nvidia cards. Will this work on a Asus MB Sabartooth x79 and Asus GTX 970?

While I can't speak to those specific cards, I have 2 of these cables, one provided to me free from Thermaltake, and one I bought from Newegg, and they both seem to work just fine (for over 3 months now) with both an EVGA GTX 980 as well as a pair of nVidia Titan X (Pascal) cards on my Gigabyte GA-Z170X-SOC Force motherboard.
