Question 1

I have a MSI MS-7778 motherboard which is uATX. It has a 4 pin connector for the power supply, next to the CPU. I recently bought a new Corsair power supply, which does not have any 4 pin connectors, only 8. Will this converter cable solve my problem & allow me to plug from the power supply's 8 pin connection into the motherboard's 4 pin connector?

The 8 pin will fit the 4 pin.  Either the cable is justified left or right.  You shouldn't need to buy an adapter, but if you feel more comfortable doing so, this one will do the trick.

Question 2

I'm thinking of using this for a new video card, as the power supply i have does not have an 8 pin cable on it, which is required. would this or something similar work, or am i asking for trouble?

I don't think that the 2 ends would be compatible.   I used this to lengthen the power supply cable's secondary connection (4-pin) to my motherboard (8-pin)

If your graphics card needs an 8-pin cable, it makes me wonder if the power supply you currently have will provide the proper power needed for the card...

Newer power supplies should have the necessary 8-pin cables.

I'm not sure what you are asking but this is a 4pin female to 8pin male CPU power adapter. You plug the 4pin male connector from your power supply into the 4pin female end of this cable. Then you plug the 8pin male end into the 8pin female plug on your motherboard. If you have a 4pin female plug on your motherboard (I think that's what your trying to say) then you need to get a plug that has 4pin male and 8pin female ends.B
