If I need more length from my motherboard to my power switch. Would this be the cable I need?

There are two possibilities.  First, if your power switch runs into an internal usb connector then, yes, this will work.

Second, if the pins on your mobo for the power switch, speaker, HDD light, power on light have the same spacing as the female part of internal usb header, then, yes, it will also work.

I used this when I installed a card reader in the front panel of my desktop.  Worked great.

Question 2

Hi, on the female cable I want to connection to this cable has one less pin than this cable.   I think most USB 2.0 headers do.   Can I remove one of the pins?   Will this cause any issues?   Thanks.

Most USB Headers on motherboards have 9 pins with pin 9 is missing.  Pin 10 is often labeled as NC (no connection) or Supplemental Ground.

The extension cables have 8 pins with pins 9 and 10 missing.

I'm not sure if pin 10 is necessary, but the cable should fit all standard usb headers.

You should not need to remove any of the pins.

The usb cable i have has 9 pins on it but this extension chord only has 8 pins on the male end so will it still work?

True Each USB port only uses 4 pins (8 total) 1 is unused and one is a key for the 10 pin connector
