Will this work for HD sound (or is it just for AC97)? Thanks

Yes - I'm using it for HD sound. The pins for AC97 are different I believe & I actually couldn't say if it would work or not with '97. I only cared about HD audio & i can tell you it's fine for that.

Yes. This will extend the cable in case the cable from your case is not long enough.
