Question 1

Does this control the speed of ALL 5 fans, or only the 1 fan connected directly to the 4-pin connector? Have you directly tested and checked ALL fans to know for sure?

This has five fan connectors one power connector and a motherboard fan connector. It uses the molex power connector to supply power to the fans. Of the five fan connectors only one has a speed sensor circuit, use this connector to read speed. The other four connectors have no speed sensor circuit but are speed controlled by the motherboard. So yes as long as you use the connector with the 4 wires all your fans will be controlled.

can you plug in 3 pin fans into the four pin connectors?

Yes you can.  Depending on your wiring schematic the only thing you may lose is the readout/or fan speed control of the fans rpm or voltage control.  There are many resources out there that give easy to understand 5 w's of questions such as yours.  I will post a couple of other resources just typing that same question into "popular search engine".  Sorry I have to abbreviate, TH, which is one place that usually has most all your computer answers and another that I found is wiki.  Hopefully it is not an issue pointing you to these areas to find your answers.  I am just a "shade tree" computer enthusiast, but this product worked well for my cause.  Just to give you an idea and yes it may sound overboard to most...I have 10 fans operating in my setup.  I have some that are 4 pin hooked into this harness.   Godspeed.

can you use this product with just the molex plugged in and the five fan connectors or do you have to have the other female end plugged into a mobo port?

Hello, I just tested this for you. The fans fire up with just the molex cable plugged in. They run at full speed. I believe the mobo plug is for throttling. Shouldn't have no problem if you're looking for maximum cooling vs sound.

Question 4

Is it ok to plug the fans into both the motherboard and the psu? if not which would be a better idea?

You have to plug it into both for it to work correctly. This is a PWM fan splitter it takes power from the psu  and the signal from a motherboard PWM header. If you have more motherboard fan headers you can plug more fans into them, if you have enough psu connectors you could plug more fans into that too. This splitter works great by the way.

Question 5

I want to attach my five 3 pin Corsair AF140 fans (three came with Corsair 520 Air case, two add on), to my Asus Maximus VII Hero motherboard.

One of the four 4-pin PWM fan headers on the motherboard is all the way on the bottom, making only three usable.

Can I use this to connect three of the 3-pin fans the power supply, controlled by one of the PWM headers? Will the speed be controlled by the motherboard, or will they always run at 100%?

There is a sort of "Master" header that connects to the mobo, and you will be able to control all the PWM fans on the the cables with the proper connectors via the motherboard, but yes, all at the single variable speed for all the attached fans, or you can run the at 100%. I control mine from the BIOS setup/config, but there are GUI tools you can interact with some boards in real time too.

It's a pretty cool harness, but it does have a few quirks with regard to the flexibility of the setup. I ended up getting 2 of these and it dramatically simplified my cable routing issues and desired fan configuration.

From what I understand of your reason for asking this question, this is exactly what you need. It's one of those things where you can experiment with it and find something that works for you. If I recall correctly, (I'm not able to fuss with it, it took me forever to get it all setup how I wanted it) there is one of the 5 headers that do NOT have the signal wire for controlling the PWM function, which doesn't seem to be noted in the documentation that I have found.

Are the PWM connections labeled so that a person can tell which connection is reporting the RPM?

One of the five fan connections has 4 wires that one reports the rpm the rest have 3 wires. Then you have the big connector that supplys power to the 5 fans. The last connector goes to the pmw on your motherboard. 
I have 2 of these on my system and they work great. When the system is idle ten fans are silent. You can even daisy chain them and run 9 fans off 1 motherboard connector if you needed to.

i want to connect 4 cm jetflo fans with these to 1 4pin pwm header will these burn the header?

I believe the power is drawn from the 4-pin molex connector and the fan speed is controlled with the header  connector. In the picture you can see all the fan connectors attach only the single pwm wire to the mobo header.

Question 8

I want to control 2 PWM fans that came with my h110, aswell as 3x3 pin case fans all to be controlled to the motherboard.  If i plug that 4 pin pwm jack by the molex in the pic, to the motherboard pwm header, and then run all 5 of the headers to my fans, will all my fans actually adjust them selves or do I have to have all pwm fans?

Put the 4 pin pwm in the pwm port on motherboadd and that will control the speed of all the other fans.
Yes a single molex can power all the fans and you actually  don't want to power all the fans though one socket on the motherboard alone so do ensure that the molex power is connected to the cable.

this is my first computer build so i don't know to much if anything at all i am getting an Antec Twelve Hundred V3 Black Steel ATX Full Tower Unbeatable Gaming Case it has six fans and i'm not sure if i need any other cords to get it to connect to my CORSAIR AX series AX760 760W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready or mobo MSI 970A-G46 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS?

It is a good idea to have one of these on hand.

Power supplies usually come with 2 converters or adapters for fan power cables, and then your motherboard will have a few connectors for fans on it.

With this you can much easier manage the cables and make sure you'll have the length of cable to reach the fan power.  Most cases will not include more fans than standard motherboard and power supplies will accommodate for, but this looks nicer and makes it easier for $5.  Hope this answers your question... you probably don't NEED one to get all your fans working, but it would be very helpful.

Are the fan headers 3 pin or 4 pin?

I personally bought it to use 3 pin connections. Its been a while since i bought it. I would say if you dont have the back space available or are not good with cable mangement dont get this item. It crowds the back of the case. Most of the time if its a 4 pin you can use 3 pin as well. "Most" of the time.
