Is use limited to data and peripherals, or can it be used for charging a device?

This is merely an adapter only and does not include a power source to charge a device. If your device has a proprietary power adapter than you must use that to charge your device because it won't charge through a micro-USB to USB. My HP OMNI 10.1" Windows 8.1 Tablet won't charge through USB 2.0 because the port is designed for data transfers and peripherals only. For Android smartphones and tablets, it could work because the micro-USB accepts charging. I can't test it, since I don't have a USB cable lying around to plug into the adapter to try it out. The included charger that came with my Note 4 works fine. I don't see a justifiable reason to charge through an Right Angle Micro USB to USB OTG Host Adapter M/F .
