Sure it will, as long as the device has a SATA interface and the distance to the motherboard connector is less than the cable's length.

Yes it does work with an SSD. I have a TeamGroup SSD mounted in an adapter and slid into an unused floppy slot on a Dell desktop. Extra length allowed tying off. connections tight. Get you one.
