Will this allow me to extend my desktop to two monitors? or does it simply output two identical images?

I bought one with the intention of extending the desktop, if this splitter does it I couldn't figure out how. All it would do for me was to clone the original image. I'm tossing it aside & trying another solution instead, waiting on parts for that to come in now.

Question 2

Hi, I had an issue with two of these described also by other users.  When plugging in a second cable to the adapter, the image on the first cable becomes distorted (ghost image a few pixels off of another image).

I've tried 3 adapters, one monoprice, and two startech and they all do it, suggesting an issue with my particular setup.

My question, do some onboard and / or intel graphics cards not output at a high enough power to handle the splitting?  I would imagine so.  Is there a way to determine the power output from the specs?  What would we look for?  If there's no easy straightforward method, I'll have to submit a poor review because it's not clear that this only works with devices with a specific feature, namely a high enough power output on the VGA port.  OR at least there should be a disclaimer/warning, even if there's no way for potential buyers to know if it will work.

I think you are right in that the signal might need a particular strength. I noticed that with a long cable (100ft) the signal won't even reach your display, so using shorter cables whenever possible is worth a shot. I suppose either that or using some sort of active extender; something that will amplify the signal, so it will reach its destination with enough strength. Other than that, maybe make sure you are using well shielded cables. I had a similar problem in one display while the other was just too far to show anything, so I'm off to look for an active splitter.
