Ethernet is limited to 100 Mbps on 2 pairs with this device. It simply uses 4 pairs in the wall to split out two 2 pair Ethernet connections at each end. If you wanted to use Gigabit Ethernet (1000 Mbps) you should not use this device - reference: IEEE 802.3ab

I believe it will. I have had no problems splitting or doubling .

You need two. One that both computers connect to, then the other side the router/switch needs two wires to plug into another.
