I'm trying to connect a TV to my Computer with HDMI Cable do I need a displayport converter?

Yes, Most computer manufactures have moved to using display port and mini display port connections while most HDTVs only have HDMI connections. Newegg has a good selection of DP to HDMI converters. Check the type of port on the computer because there are two types of converters: Mini DP and Standard DP. Mini is a small square connector and the standard connector looks like this picture. What you will need to make your setup work is a DP to HDMI convert and a regular HDMI cable. Some TVs are not as advance as other and might require tweaking the computer's video settings. If possible lowering the refresh rate will stablize the picture and eliminate flicker. The new Samsung Model TVs will work without having to make and changes to the computer's graphics.
