Does gaming lose it's graphics quality when transfers from Display to hdmi? Or does it just vary on what TV I have, which is an ultra HD 4K tv.

Not an expert,  but i don't believe there is any degradation in quality. It should display the same quality as an equivalent hdmi-to-hdmi cord.  1080p looks as good as a blu-ray for me.  The description states it has a maximum resolution of 1080p, but this was likely written when 1080p was the highest standard,  as far as I know all high-speed HDMI cables can handle both 1080p and 4k.

This cable is certified to work with DisplayPort v1.1a video standards.  Current standards go up to v1.3 which is highest resolution levels for this format.  Apple introduced a Mini DisplayPort which this cable is not the mini version.  If your Apple device has the regular sized DisplayPort and your HDMI device is fine with v1.1 display level, you should work fine.  If both devices are higher (v1.2 or v1.3) it will work but will not display the highest video quality available. Best to determine which DisplayPort format you have with your Apple device.

This cable is advertised as a DisplayPort --> HDMI cable.  Has anyone tried to use it in the reverse direction, from an HDMI source to a monitor with a DisplayPort input?

At least two reviewer state no the cable CAN NOT be used in reverse from an HDMI source.  They had bought the cable because of Adam M's answer.

Will this work from a laptop with DP to a HDTV with HDMI?

Yes bought for exactly that purpose in fact. As long as the port size matches so full size DP or mini-DP to full size HDMI to mini-HDMI. If the sending unit has the port the and the cable plugs in it will work. This would include all modern laptops.

yes...Your 4K monitor (3840 X 2160) is a 60hz.  What this means is for 4K monitors and gaming, expect highest Frames per second at 60 using Display port to Display port.  Now you are using a HDMI connection, this 4K monitor will drop to 30hz, which means for gaming highest frames per second drops to 30.  The HDMI connection drops the hz, DP to DP it does not drop, it is 60hz.

So you bought a nice 4K monitor that you wont fully maximize the potential :(

The quick answer is yes, but your question is only part of a question.  The bandwidth of this cable is 2.25Gbps.  Think of the cable like a water pipe.  Water can flow at a varied speed, but how much water do you need at that speed?  This is a standard speed HDMI cable.  High Speed HDMI is rated 10GB, which is good for about 4K at 60Hz.  Premium high-speed is rated at 18GB and Ultra Premuim high speed 48GB. Ultra premium will allow almost 8K at 75Hz.  I hope this helps!

could anyone tell me if this supports g-sync + 144hz? also if it doesnt could you link me to the highest quality cable that does? im a bit confused because it has a displayport on one end and then an hdmi on the other. should i be buying one with one with 2 displayports on each end of the cable?

Personally I like the star tech display port cables.  I am looking at picking up the 165hz monitor.  Had a similar question about the 15 foot cable that claims to be certified hdr2. Just need to figure out if the 15ft cable actually supports 2560x1440 @ 144+ hzs.

I am not familiar with DP ports.   The monitor I received from Dell had this instead of the HDMI I requested.  The non HDMi has a slight bend not  two straight sides.  Will this one work?

Mine is plugged into a 100hz monitor and its running at 100hz.  So I'm comfortable saying yes to this.
