what kind of ram does this board allow?

I am using regular laptop 4gb 204-pin sodimm ddr3 memory in my two boards and they run great. I did not have to use the ddr3l low voltage ram which was nice as I have lots of the 1.5v laptop memory laying around. Hope this helps.

Question 2

I saw a review saying the voltage of the RAM is critical to making the board work.  What is the correct voltage to choose?

It's critical *IF* you're buying a board which only supports 1.35V - which is DDR3L (low voltage) - normal DDR3 DIMMs won't work on those boards.

This is one of the only (if not the only) board which supports both 1.35V *AND* normal 1.5V DIMMs.

I'm using two standard 4GB 1.5V DIMMs just fine - it's a fantastic board. About as fast as a high-end Core2Duo, with like 1/10th the heat and 0 fan noise.

Does this run fine with linux?

I am running Debian 8 fine as a media/general home server, added max RAM I think 32MB for future use but so far great, no fan, quiet, in fact have almost forgotten about it. I use two 4GB Western Digital SATA hard drives using Linux software RAID1 mirror works great

There is a list of compatible RAMs in the ASRock website. I used the G.Skill Ripjaws (1.35V) RAM that is not in the list, link below, and it works fine. I have a feeling any 1.35V DDR3 SO-DIMM will work. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231725

can an atx power supply be used to power this board?

Yes. I use an ATX power supply to power this board in my file server. Specifically, I use SeaSonic Platinum Series SS-400FL2 Active PFC F3 400W ATX12V.

Question 6

is it possible this product shipped without Intel HD Graphics installed? It is not listed as a display option. I can not install Intel driver as I get my hardware not compatible. I have nothing but Standard VGA Graphics Adapter listed.

Hi. Should work if you have compatible hardware.  If your display is old and can't  do 1020p or 720p resolution that's most likely the problem. My display is an Insignia 55 inch led TV and works well with windows 7

What's the best approach for adding wifi? I bought an PCie x1 wireless adapter only to find there's no room for it.  Thanks for any pointers.

Since the motherboard does have a PCIe x1 slot I would assume your case is the issue.  Having said that the following is a nice Mini PCIe card that cant mount directly on the board.

With this solution you would also need a copuple wifi antennas and pigtails.  I gutted an old non-functioning Netgear router for its antennas and connecting pigtails.  They can also be purchased many places online.

Saving that you may just want to look for a good USB wifi adapter.  The one from Newegg listed below has worked well for me in the past.

what are the dimensions of this board in inches?

Dimensions are 6.7 × 6.7 in. This is the standard for Mini-ITX form factor. They are designed so that they also fit into a regular ATX or Micro-ATX case (regular tower, mid-tower, or micro-tower cases. I installed my Q1900 in an old mid-tower case and it fit just fine.

Hi. J1900's manual says that its GPU handles 4K video but only at 2560x1600 resolution. HDMI is full 1080P only. Is this a hard limit or is there software solution to increase 4K to full 4000x2000?

No software solution is currently available. J1900 is suitable for the current standards of 720p and 1080p video. Brief search indicates Intel's newest embedded Celeron 3765U supports DisplayPort (DP) and 4K res. Maybe some upcoming motherboards will offer this.

Has anyone tried using a mSATA drive (half size) on the mPCIe slot? Does it work?

Msata and mpcie are not the same thing. It is unfortunate that they use the same connector because the devices do not function interchangeably.
