Can UEFI be turned off in Bios for the use of Linux?

Linux works without turning UEFI off. Just note that Ubuntu works out of the box, for Centos OS you must add intel_pstate=disable to the grub command line.

What is the minimum memory needs? 4 GB? Does it need a CPU fan?

Accepted Answer

There is no memory minimum. This board supports DDR3/DDR3L 1333/1066 non-ECC, un-buffered memory. That's just regular DDR3 memory. However, it has a maximum capacity of 16GB of memory.

A CPU fan isn't really needed. I've had this board running for a few months now, with minimal shutdowns, and it's functioned perfectly with normal heat outputs. The heatsink that's installed is plenty to keep the Celeron processor at proper temperatures.

What is the processor speed in GBs?

Accepted Answer

Because of the nature of processors as small clocks, they do not have a speed like with data. They, instead, have a "speed" of how many times it can make a cycle. This is called frequency, and gives you the unit Hz (Hertz) as opposed to GB/s. GB/s is a transfer rate which can be used with RAM, hard drives, and flash drives, but not processors.

Intel claims that the J1900 processor runs at 2 GHz.

No, and it is pretty fussy on what memory it will run with.  You NEED to run standard desktop-type DDR3 with a speed of 1333 or it will not boot.  The manual and NewEgg indicates it will run with 1066 but that is absolutely NOT the case.  I almost sent my boards back as defective before I figured this out.

Does the cpu need a fan?

I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade the CPU in this board? I don't want to pull the heatsink off to see, and if it is replaceable could someone tell me what socket it has so I can look at options as far as upgrades go?

No, I believe the cpu is soldered oin the motherboard, there is no socket.  I have built several systems with this motherboard and it runs pretty fast with 8 GB of memory.  I have been very happy with its performance.  Use a SSD and get more performance.  This board is not for gaming, just home or business use.

I am using a "C Mega 525ATX power supply" to connect to this mobo,however instructions suggest I connect CPU fan cable. Since the CPU is fanless. what should be connected to that 3-pin fan connector?

I suppose its for a chassis fan...that is a fan mounted to the case...but you may not needd or have one..In that case the connector would not be used.

If I jam a low profile GPU like GT 730 or R7 240 in this, will this be enough for gaming like DotA 2 or LoL?

I put a XFX AMD Radeon HD 5450 1GB GDDR3 in mine combined w/ 4 gigs of DDR3 and it runs LoL on medium settings!  Hope that helps.

Is not a good idea, If you have a low budget and want to play, save a little more and get something more powerful.

what is the  biggest hard drive that can go in it  in gb ?

Any standard SATA hard drive will work with this board, from 10GB to 8TB+. However, super sized hard drives leave you in a bind if they fail, as they are expensive and you lose much more data at once. I personally stick to 2TB HDD main drives, and 4TB backup drives.
