Does this board require heat sink SNK-P0048P ('Square')  or SNK-P0048PS ('Narrow')?

Supermicro Documentation is not clear but since by rule I am not allowed to link to that I can't point to the ambiguity there.

It requires the narrow heatsink (Narrow ILM). The manufacturer is indeed unclear about this. For a visual comparison to help distinguish between the two types, check out the Supermicro MBD-X10DRI-LN4+-O motherboard which utilizes the square socket type (Square ILM).

Does this have an on board raid controller?

I bought this board and it was dead on arrival.  Since I had not mounted it within 30 days of buying it I was out of luck.  Supermicro refused to help at all.  Buy an Intel.  The support is worth the money.

Question 3

I have this board, (three of them) and 6 of the following CPUs

Intel Xeon E5-1650 v3 Haswell-EP 3.5GHz 6 x 256 KB L2 Cache 15MB L3 Cache LGA 2011-3 140W Server Processor

I can not get one board to recognize both CPUs. I am using the 2U supermicro rack mounted chasis that is recommended. I don't have redundant power supplies. Anyone got any ideas on why I can't get these other CPUs to work?

you need 2600 series for dual CPU. 1600 will only recognize one CPU

This supports 145W TDP is that for each CPU or both combined? I'm looking at getting two E5-2630 V3 which are rated at 85W each from what I've read.

I am buying two Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2640 v4 and also two Nvidia TitanX graphics cards. Does this motherboard support these. Especially I am more concerned with processor as  it is written that motherboard supports E2600 V3 family?

Dear Consumer,

I have 3X SUPERMICRO MBD-X10DRI Extended ATX.

I am running 1 config with  2 x Intel E5-2699 v.4, and 1 X Nvidia TitanX graphics card. I know that 1 (one) graphics card will work. I run the card with dual 4K monitors.

I am running 1 config with  2 x Intel E5-2698 v.3, and 1 X Quadro FX5800 graphics card.

I am running 1 config with  2 x Intel E5-2697 v.3, and 1 X Quadro FX5600 graphics card.

The common thread is that you need to use DDR4 memory in all configs.

Last thing that I noticed is that the Titan X uses quite a bit of power; do a power budget and get a power supply with some headroom.

Does this Motherboard support 2 Intel Xeon Processor E5-2640 v3 CPU's? Seems the Motherboard supports the E5-26xx family except the socket support listed is only LGA 2011. Whereas the Xeon E5-2640 v3 explicitly calls for LGA 2011-3.

They were sloppy listing the socket.  Go by the supported porrocessor list, it is correct.

You can never expect to get any specific BIOS version on motherboards.  You could buy two identical boards at the same time from the same retailer and get to different BIOS versions.  Just flash it to the latest stable version when you get it.

Comparison... I'm choosing between this board and the MBD-X8DAH+-F-O.  The X8DAH has TWO chipsets, but slower RAM, QPI and older tech.  The MBD-X10DRI has newer tech (I guess), ONE chipset, faster RAM and faster QPI.  Which will result in faster processing power?

I considered both boards. I delayed my purchase expecting a newer technology chipset from Intel. I was glad I did. Since I did not buy both boards - I cant tell you how much difference if any you will see. I was more interested in the DDR4 support - and the compatibility with the newer processors. I like the board.
