I am considering buying a Dell XPS 8700 that comes with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 720 1GB DDR3.  From the pictures, this Dell only has DVI and HDMI video out.  I cannot find anywhere on Dell's site what type of DVI connector is on the card, but I need to connect it to a KVM with VGA. Idk about the max res, but i'm running max graphics for my screens and my graphic card is a geforce 770 and the screens are brand new.

I have a Sony GDM FW900, and I've done some research about what the best route to go about is for connectivity to my GTX 670, and I was wondering if this adapter will suit my needs. Does this adapter allow me to run my monitor at it's max refresh rate (160hz) and max resolution (2304x1440)? I was under the impression that analogue-analogue connections had no limitations for resolutions/refresh rates, but I want to make sure this adapter does what I need.

YES... And Also DVI output Has the ability to push the VGA to it's max. I can't remember now but monitors could (listen) faster then older VGA cards can (speak). But DVI Bandwidth is much higher. Your DVI output will detect the adapter to VGA and slow it's self down to match up the Sony GDM FW900 VGA input.

Perhaps I have missed it, but is this 24 + 1 or 24 +5 pins? The close up of the item shows shadows or scars where the extra 4 pins would be. The reason I ask is I have 3 video cards with DVI plugs. The oldest and newest have 24 +5 pin plugs, but the next newest has a 24 + 1 plug. Almost all of the adapters on Newegg that are DVI to VGA are 24 + 5.

DVI-I by standard has to contain the 4 pins required for the analog output on VGA. This also means your video card needs to be 24+5 for it to work. You will not find a working passive VGA adapter that's 24+1.
