Does this work with ATA ssd drives?

It has two sizes it can accommodate-the regular SATA drives, such as the ones that go in my old Mac Pro, and also a smaller size, I am guessing like for a lap top. I never use those. I am very happy with mine. It's great!

Does it have a thunderbolt port on it for throughput capability (i.e., not requiring it be at the end of a chain)?

No, there is no throughput for the Thunderbolt connection. Unfortunately, it must be at the end of the chain. I am happy with my purchase. It is very fast for data transfer and worth it unless you need to be able to daisy chain other devices through it.

Does this support JBOD with only one Thunderbolt port?

Each drive  appears all by itself on the mac.  They appear as two seperate drives on the desktop

I'm wondering if this can be set up as a Raid 1 drive? I need it to be a mirrored set.

Sort of. You can, but you have to do it in software on the Operating System. The dock itself does not have any RAID functionality built in.

What is the maximum size hard drive this will work with. Will it work with a 6TB drive? Larger?

Yes, it will work with 6TB. We have not tested with larger drives yet.

Will this unit allow me to bounce my PC files to my new Mac Pro with Yosemite??

Sure if both the PC and Mac have thunderbolt connections and the file system on the drive is able to be read by the o/s.

Mac can not write to NTFS volumes without o/s modification or 3rd party software. Mac can read NTFS.

PC can not even see Mac HFS volumes without 3rd part software (MacDrive).

This unit is optimized for SSD drives, Hard Drives do work in the unit, but i have seen faster R/W speeds to Hard Drives in a USB tray.  Thunderbolt should smoke USB 3.

Is this dock compatible with 4TB drives?
