Is this for desktop drive or laptop drive?

It's not a drive, it's an enclosure. i.e. it turns your internal laptop drive into an external drive. Which then can be used as external USB drive.
If you need a USB external drive this is not what you are looking for. People who typically have a spare laptop 2.5" drive use this case to convert it into an external drive... hope this helps.

where can one get Male/Male USB cable?  I have a MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt and standard USB ports.

For this enclosure such a cable is included. I use mine with a SSD and my MacBook Pro with USB 3. Works great.

Question 3

Will this work with a 7200 rpm drive given it does not have a separate power?

If you can, check the drive model on line to get the current requirement.  USB 2 can supply 0.5 amps, and USB 3.0 a minimum of 0.9 amp.

Question 4

Is this suppose to work better for a 9.5mm drive? I have a 7mm drive and I can hear it wiggling around in the enclosure.

sometimes the manufacturer will stick an adhesive insert in with it to pad the gap. This one did not have one and yes, it rattled with my drive too. I cut a small strip of congregated cardboard from the shipping box and taped it on the top of the drive with some electrical tape. It pads it well and no no more rattle.

Will this enclosure supports Crucial MX300 525GB SATA 2.5 Inch Internal Solid State Drive ??
