Is it possible to only use the keyboard/mouse without the VGA?As example, I have 4 computers each with their own monitor. I want to control all four with one keyboard/mouse.

Accepted Answer

Yes.  You would only connect the USB cable and not connect the VGA cable to the KVM switch and PC's.  Continue to keep your monitors plugged in directly to the PC's and the KVM switch will not affect the monitors when switching between the ports.

Question 2

I have a lap top and a desktop, desktop has two monitors will this work?

First off the switch only one monitor connection so the second monitor may or may not work. I am pretty sure that the second monitor may become inactive when the switch is activated to move the connections to the next port. As for the part of the laptop I haven't used it on the laptop because whenever you connect a monitor to it it is either recognized right away or you have to use a function key to switch to it. I am not sure that will work.

No, because there is only one VGA port per channel. So you can share one monitor among 4 computers, but not 2 monitors between 2 computers.

It’s plug and play. It’s not dependent too much on OS. Plug directly into the 4 computers, work stations, etc, that support VGA and USB connectivity and plug your peripherals in and you should be good to roll. Shouldn’t need to worry about OS.

Question 6

Will this product work with older OS computers? My father in law refuses to give up on his older computers that run 95, 98, xp. His main computer uses windows 7.

This doesn't use the older PS2 Ports for keyboard and mouse.  The computers will need to support USB, both in having  USB ports and the OS supporting USB keyboard and mouse.  So the win95  most likely  won't  work but the win98 and XP  should be fine.

Question 7

The image does not tell the story. Is there 2 video ports on each side of the unit? Also, if it is a 4-port how many cables come with it to connect 4 computers, the information in the description does not say 4 cables.

You're right. The image and description do not tell everything. There are four sets of ports, two on each side, to connect 4 computers. The factory package only contains 2 cables though.

The unit works well for me while I'm connecting two computers right now. It's a headache thinking of paying extra for 2 cables down the road.

I stopped using it a while ago because I needed more ports.  I There is no software to install.  All you are doing is hooking the KVM to your PC via USB.  The OS does not matter.
