USB 2 Backwards compatable?

I tested the hub two ways.  I transferred files to and from an older external hard drive and attached an ancient USB joystick through the hub and played Tie Fighter with it in DosBox.  I would say it is backwards compatible as I had no issues with either test.

The USB cable is 3 feet, but how long is the power cord?

It is far longer than 3ft, I would say about 6ft long.

Can the unit be set with the usb ports up?

If your question is to physically turn the unit in an up/side ways/down direction then the answer is yes. I have two of these units positioned vertically. One TP-Link unit has (7) SATA drive docking stations connected to the inputs and the output USB connector has a 10ft USB cable connected to one of the inputs on the second TP-LINK. On the second TP-LINK inputs I have the one 10ft USB cable with additions of a scanner/printers/& additional SATA docking drives.  All connected to the PC computer USB input port on the back. It works just fine & I have no problems with functionality.

Yes. It works pretty well.

If you plugin the hub on my computer, windows will fail to configure all the devices plugged into the hub. I then have to unplug/replug all the USB devices in the hub and it works. If I reboot windows, all the devices remain properly connected, so i only have to replug all the devices if I unplug the hub. Maybe this is a windows bug?

Is USB 3.0 compatible with the USB 2.0 on my laptop?

Yes, USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and many other past revisions.  Devices plugged in may not be as fast as they are rated  to be; however, they should all work provided they are plugged in correctly and drivers are installed.

Does this USB switch have any mounting brackets or holes?  If I intend to mount it to a side of a desk, would I be able to?

It was just delivered today, and no, it doesn't have mounting brackets or holes. I wanted to do the same thing. It will require some ingenuity and I haven't figured it out yet. Maybe some kind of mounting tape. The USB connector is't very long. The power cord is long enough to reach a reasonable distance. (I've already installed it so measuring each cord exactly is not convenient.) The power cord plugs into the left of the unit and the USB to the back. It would have been nicer if both plugs had been next to each other.

Yes, my grandsons used this to charge theirs and they had no problems with charging either device.

If I don't plug in the power cord, will it take power from the system, or will it not work at all?

Devices attached to my hub don't work at all if the hub is unpowered.

What is the maximum current available on any one port? The power adapter can supply 30W but there's no indication if any one port is capable of delivering 2.1A (10.5W).

It states under the Attention area of the instructions that "For best performance, the connected devices should not exceed a combined current of 8A for UH720(5A for UH700)
