To use this Sabrent CRW-FLP-2 unit with the newer motherboards which do not have the 34-pin IDE connection you will need this special adapter (34pin floppy connector to USB adapter cable) available at eBay United Kingdom - I cannot include the link but do a search on this at eBay United Kingdom. I have bought it and installed to an available USB port on my Asus motherboard. It works as intended - one can read/write to floppy disks and, for my system, you can boot from it as well.

Remember all floppy drives and this Sabrent drive only use 5volts even though the 12volt lines go to the adapter or drive. Just be careful with the adapter making sure you do not strain the wires to the solder connections. Good Luck!

Yes it will read a 128GB,because it treats each one of the memory card slots as if it is a hard drive,I checked the Mfgs. web site and could not find this item, however USB 2.0 will read a 1TB External HDD, The USB Headers on a MB are the same as the ones that you can plug in to on the back of your computer,So I would say it will Read an SD 128GB, card hope this helps you out,just google Sabrent and I think the 1st Link takes you to the Mfgs. site!

Small 4 wire power supply connector normally used for floppy drive.  Also requires floppy drive data connection to main system board, floppy drive is not USB connected.

How do I connect it to a Toshiba laptop?

This device cannot be installed in a laptop.  It is intended for a desktop system and plugs directly into the motherboard's internal USB connector, which is quite different than the external USB on a laptop.

For a laptop, you can purchase a USB floppy drive and a separate USB card reader.  I coould not locate any combination floppy/card reader that would plug into a laptop's USB port.  Search for USB floppy Toshiba and you'll find a compatible floppy.  Observe the USB cable coming from the drive.  There are hundreds of different USB card readers to choose from as well.

I have a Mac OSX 10.8, looking for a device to retrieve information from old floppy disc's?  (floppy disc size approx 3.5x3.5)

This device is designed to be installed in a drive bay.  It requires a USB cable to the card reader and a floppy drive cable for the diskettes.  Most motherboards being manufactured today do not have a connection for a floppy drive cable.  If all you are trying to do is get data from floppy discs I would recommend an external floppy drive that only needs a USB port to operate.

Hello,
I thought I'd finally found, what I was looking for for quit a while now.... but after reading this  "...The card reader portion of the unit works on the USB port." I think it's not.

What I need is a card-reader (CF, SD - any will do) that is connected via a Flopy Disk (34 PIN) port.   To replace the floppy disk drive in my music sampler (Emu ESI-32). Else I won't be able to transfer samples from my computer to the sampler. (which only offers flopy disk port on the motherboard.... :-(

Any ideas that might help/work ?    AdvTHANXance   Chris

i would check if the device is connected properly.  see if there are any defects on any of the connectors.  if your problem is still there i would submit a request for a replacement.

there should be a 8 pin connector that interfaces with an available male port on the motherboard itself.  the usb port and card reader are parented by the 8 pin connector.

if you are trying to use the floppy flat ribbon assuming that will give function to the card reader\usb port,  that will not work.

This device was installed on my computer & was working.  Just went to use the 3½" floppy drive & that seems to be the only driver not working.  Any suggestions?  I'm not overly tech savvy, so please be specific.  Thanks for any help!

Are you using it on a windows operating system?  You should not have any driver problems as the drive is a standard driver that comes in Windows. The problems I had were that you HAVE to have a motherboard that has a cable that attaches to the floppy drive connector.  I also had problems with the floppy drive not allowing the disk to eject as it always caught on the little door until finally, it ate too many disks.  I just chucked the drive out.  If you only need to access the sd, micro sd and other ports and NOT the floppy drive is works ok.  In my opinion, it is a good idea, but very poorly engineered to be a good deal. The Floppy drive portion DOES require the 34 pin connector. The USB header is for all of the other memory card slots (as well as the single USB port). I have been unable to find ANY sort of 34 pin -> SATA adapter. I have seen other similar devices to this that use USB for the floppy drive, but because of that it does not include the USB port on the front.
