Bottom sticker on drive says 98/2000/ME/XP/Vista.
I plugged into Win7 and Win 8 and Bytecc driver installed successfully. Plugged into XP and driver installs as Teac (no big deal).

I did not try to read a disk on Win7/8, just to see if drive recognized.

I did format a floppy on an XP computer.

Note that 1 of 2 drives I ordered does not recognize disks (but Windows recognizes when it is plugged in).  So essentially 1 of 2 was DOA, and corrupts every drive I insert into the drive.  Be sure to test any new drive with blank data disks, and as always, have a backup copy of any files on the floppy.

Hope this helps a little (I'm sure the one good drive would read on Win8, but it was in use by our machinist and I could not take it to test on another system).

I found disks from the 90s with family photos on them and notes saying to run pcanywhere.  Will this let me open and copy the pics?

This is a floppy disc read write to USB  the pic probably will work but your old pc anywhere most likley won't install.

Is this device compatible with Windows 7?

Yes. I used the device to copy over files from a 10 year old IDE harddrive. The computer I moved the files on was running 64-bit Windows 7 Professional. I had some trouble with the hard drive showing the files and had to power the devicen on and off repeatedly. I got the files moved successfully though. I haven't used the device on any recent harddrives. I think my problems were due to the age of the harddrives. Just wanted to be honest with you.

Hello! I ordered this item and my laptop recognizes it fine. Problem is, the floppy I am trying to read off of it, my system tells me to format which would delete off all the material on the floppy which I am trying to extract.
Any suggestions out there to assist?

On a second attempt, I put in a floppy I didn't care about to go through the process, and received the same error - upon allowing it to "format" the floppy, my system said it could not complete it.

I just got done copying around 215 diskettes to my computer using my floppy drive. I also had some that would not open and it said I needed to format the disk. I assumed that the disk was corrupt. I actually tried two different floppy drives and the same message. I asked my son what it meant and he agreed with me that the diskette must be corrupt. Especially when all the other diskettes opened just fine. I am sorry but that is the best answer I know of from my own experience. If you do find out how to get the files off, I would appreciate knowing so I can get the diskettes and try again to retrieve the files.

Will this allow me to play an old pc game I have, which runs in DOS? The game is called Ancient Art of War in the Skies...kind of a silly game, but I miss it....LOL

This drive can be used to Read or Write files on the Floppy Drive. Plug it in and it will be automatically recognized as drive A:\ just like any other removable USB device like a thumb drive. Drives A:\ and B:\ are reserved for floppy drives.

To run a DOS program you need to be running DOS or DOS in a Virtual Machine. For further explanation and help see: PC World November 28, 2011 or Google up additional information for Free DOS and Virtual Box.

Some DOS programs are runnable on WIN7 XP compatibility mode or XP it self.

Will this work with Windows 8.1?

I am glad I checked. It had worked on Windows 8, but when I just went over to my only Windows 8.1 machine (recently updated) I did get an iO error. I think you may want to  a look else where. I hope this helps.

Can this read pc floppy disks on iMac desktop?

The specs on the box indicate support for Mac OS8.6/9.0/9.0.2/9.0.4/9.1

Same specs show Windows from 98 thru Vista, but for me it works with Windows 7.

I need this drive to work with Windows ME, 98 and Windows 7.

Will it work with these, or will I need drivers?

I bought two - one was DOA.  I used it with XP and 7 without any drivers, but that isn't a guarantee.

I just bought this to use with a Windows 7, 64-bit system and it will not read any of my old 3.5" floppies.  It wants to format anything I put in the disk drive.  I'm unclear how to use the included driver disk and don't know if I got a lemon or if I'm to blame.

Any suggestions?

A Quick disclosure, I mainly used this device on a Windows Vista 32-bit operating system.  I used this device to transfer data from a large collection of old floppy discs to my computer.  The discs ranged in age, having been created between 1980 and 2003.  I found that I would occasionally experience the same issue you appear to be experiencing.  The issue arose more frequently with older discs, and those that appeared particularly worn and possibly damaged.  Often, I was able to read these discs after disconnecting and reconnecting the device.  Ultimately, however, there were certain discs that I simply could not get the device to read.
