is there a way i can password protect or lock files stored on this device? If so, how? I cant figure out a way to do it.

Use a piece of software called Truecrypt (there are MANY guides out there).  It will create an encrypted file container that can be mounted like an external hard driv, or it can encrypt the entire drive.  My suggestion would be to create an encrypted container that is the size of thor hard drive minus 50MB.  use that remaining 50MB to keep the truecrypt program (it's 100% portable).  That way you can use it on computers that don't have truecrypt on them already.  Just plug in your drive, launch tryecrypt and mount the encrypted file container.

Yes. Should the drive be formatted to use the FAT32 file system, it will be compatible with both Mac and PC.

I am using it with Linux.  It should work with any OS that can access a normal SATA hard drive via USB.  I am not using the included software, and do not remember if there was Mac software included, but you do not need the software to use the drive.

All external drives are comprised of an internal HDD in an enclosure. Should you wish, the enclosure can be opened and the drive removed.

I just ordered one of these. Because there are no system requirements listed, can I assume that this is Mac compatible? If not, is there a way to make it Mac compatible?

I don't know why it matters, but most portable HD are 2.5 inches (Desktops are usually 3.5).  You should be able to tell from the picture and the description.

This product has 1TB of storage, which is 1000GiB. This translates to roughly 930GB of actual storage space.

You must reformat it for use with a Mac. While the Mac OS will read NTFS files, it cannot natively write to disks formatted with NTFS. You can purchase third-party software that allows Macs to both read AND write to NTFS-formatted devices.
