Have any of the other 11 reviewers here experienced the white flickering that seems to be common with a batch of these monitors?

Can you adjust the height of this monitor?

Yes, the height is adjustable. Height movement has about a 5 inch range--at the lowest setting the base of the bezel is about 2 inches from the desk surface, and at the topmost setting the base of the bezel is about 7 inches from the desk surface.

Is this a WIDESCREEN? Does a monitor have to literally say WIDESCREEN or is their some cute other new word meaning "widescreen"? Help Please.

Yes, it is a wide screen.

The easiest way to tell that (and I agree, all of the terms used to describe monitor resolution can be very confusing) is to look at the ratio of the height and width in the resolution.

Here, you have 2560 x 1440, which is standard 16:9, same as 1920 x 1080, or 1600 x 900.  So you can be assured that this is a wide screen.

Most "square" monitors still in existence are 4:3, but 5:4 (1280x1024) was quite popular for a time, as well.

The word here that is most telling is WQHD.  When you see that, it means that the monitor has a resolution of 2560x1440, which is a bit sharper than 1920 x 1080 (and highly recommended for a monitor this large) without being full on 4K (3180 x 2160).  You'll still need something better than a single-link DVI (dual link DVI, display port, or high density HDMI) but other than that you won't have any of the problems that Windows has with 4K displays -- if in fact you're planning on using the monitor with Windows at all.

I believe they now make a 4K version of this monitor, and that it is also carried by Newegg, if you prefer.  Personally, I have one of these and think it's perfect.

Does this have build in speakers?

No. It has an audio out (which you can plug speakers into), but there are no built in speakers on the unit itself.

Is this monitor VESA compatible?

Are you asking if it has a vesa mount or if the output is vesa standard?  I'll assume that you're asking about the mount, yes, I actually have it mounted on a Ergontron desktop mount using the built in 100x100 mount (it's under a cover that is across the back), it also comes with an adapter to let it mount to a 200x200 (see the picture)

Before I purchased it, I actually went to Samsung's site and found the manual to get the same question answered. I will caution you that you to use the cables that come with it (it comes with DVI, HDMI, Display port, and a mini-display Port 2 display port adapter. Must DVI cables don't have all the pins, this monitor requires one with them all. Hope this helps!

I need to convert the DVI input for a standard VGA cable..
what cable or converter is available ?

There are many DVI-to-VGA converters available.  You can buy one complete cable that has a DVI end (male or female) on one side and a VGA end (male or female) on the other side.  I would recommend the cable option.  Just do a search for "DVI to VGA Cables" and see what is offered.

The second option is a little converter that has a DVI plugin on one side and a VGA plugin on the other side.  You would then plug in a DVI cable into one side, and plug in a VGA cable into the other side.  Do a search for "DVI to VGA Converters" and see what is offered.

I own both of these options (cable and converter), and they will both work just fine for this monitor.  I like the cable version better, but that is just my personal preference.  I also own this monitor, and it is a GREAT buy!  I hope this information helps.  Peace.

Is the screen matte or glossy?

It is matte.  It doesn't show much reflection except if there is a very bright light somewhere in the room, or if the sun is outside and shining in a window.  This is a very, very good monitor.  I've had it for quite a while and very happy with it.

Can this be used for gaming?

You can game on this but it's not the most gaming-centric display.  5ms response time and there is a game mode button you can toggle disable any processing that might cause extra lag.  I'm not too sensitive to lag so it's fine for me but some people might prefer faster display.

All flat panel monitors are either plasma or LCD.  The LED feature adds backlighting to brighten the picture, particularly at the edges.  This monitor is an LCD monitor with LED backlighting.

Be sure to have space for this one.  I was surprised at how much bigger a 32" screen is compared to a 27" when installed.
