Does the stand allow for the monitor to be rotated for  a portrait view instead of landscape view?

I'm looking for a monitor I can rotate.

No it doesn't have capacity to rotate with the stock stand.  There are the 4 holes for a mounting plate so if you want to monitors together, getting that type of mount would work fine.  This monitor is awesome!

Question 2

Where is the power switch?  I am putting this in a tight area and need the power switch on top or bottom for access.

It's a push button on the front of the bottom right corner (all of the buttons including power are to the right of where it says Acer at the bottom). If you don't have the front of the monitor obstructed you'll be able to get to it no problem.

This isn't a hardware 3D monitor. If you want to use it for 3D you will need a 3rd party solution like Nvidia provides.

full hd means that it has 1920x1080 resolution. it supports that and other resolutions too

Does this monitor pivot? can it be used vertically?

Using the original base, the monitor does tilt Up & Down a few degrees, and pivots left and right by rotating the entire base. The monitor can be used vertically if mounted to a different type of monitor base stand. There are monitor stands available which have mounting plates that attach with bolts to the four threaded holes on the back of the monitor. These stands have mounting plates capable of pivoting L-R-U-D, and some are rotatable around the plate's attachment axis. The 'bolt pattern' on the back of this particular monitor is essentially square, so the monitor can simply be installed in the vertical. Of course, if in the 'vertical plane', the monitor display might need to be rotated 90 degrees in the OS, depending on usage.

what are dimensions length, width and depth with stand?

It is 24 inches from desk to top of the monitor and approximately two and one half feet wide and about three to four inches deep at it's deepest point.

Didn't come with speakers, not an issue, so I thought, since I was just going to run sound through my separate desktop speakers and sub, but now since hooking this up through HDMI, it's not playing through them.  Any help on how I can reroute sound to my desktop set?

If it's a computer you can probably chose where the audio goes in the audio settings.

It definately has an HDMI port but I don't know about a mac adapter. I use standard IBM style computers only.
