Can you turn off the "underglow" lighting?

Yes you can turn it off. Also, you can pick from 5 colors (red, green, blue, white, and monitor status, which seems to change from white to red depending on gsync usage, or maybe overclocking ... instructions don't specify, and I haven't been bothered to find out), and you can also pick how the lights display (breathing, flashing, ripple, or fixed). Oh, and you can adjust the brightness (1-5). Personally, I leave it at green, 2, fixed: good light, without being distracting.

Question 2

I know that a large quantity of games do not support 21:9. When playing a game at a lower aspect ratio/resolution, does it just letterbox the sides or does it try to scale the image to fit? (I would prefer letter boxing). And if it does letterbox, would you say the display area is equivalent to a least a 27" monitor? (trying to make sure this is a good upgrade for me). Thanks in advance.

It's surprising how many games support 21:9, either natively or through programs like Flawless Widescreen (which I'd recommend you download). Also, get familiar with the WSGF forum. There's some very helpful tips there on a game-by-game basis.

As for your question: the monitor has the option to scale OR do a 1:1 letterbox. So you'll be fine. I prefer the letterbox myself because it preserves the original look of the game. And yes, if used at 16:9, this would be exactly a 27" 1440p monitor. You can go to DisplayWars dot com for an overlapping comparison of the two.

can a single gtx 1080 handle the full capabilities of this monitor? im running a devil's canyon I7 4.0 ghz and 16gbs of ram. debating getting this monitor and a second gtx 1080.

Yes.. I'm using the same card, I play all games at max settings and still have at least 100 frames depending on the game example, Witcher 3 gives me a challenge.. I had to turn off post processing because I want everything else max and still got 60 plus frames.. This is a great monitor, and I recommend it.. I don't know much about amd's hardware but I am using a intel 4770k oc to 4.2 so you can check benchmarks to see how close you come but you should be fine.. I wish you luck..

Does the X34 come with a DisplayPort cable?

Yes, though it's not that long.  I haven't measured it but I'd say it's about a 3ft cable.  I ended up buying a 7ft DisplayPort cable myself but my tower is further away from my monitor than I most I would say.

Question 5

Will a GTX 1080 and i5 6500k, both at stock speeds, be able to run this monitor at 100hz in most newer games?

No, but it really depends how optimized the game is and what settings you choose.  I run mine with two 980ti's (which beat one 1080) and MOST new games I don't get 100fps.  It varies greatly between 70-85fps for most games.  But this is with everything on Ultra and some AA sprinkled in (depends on game, but the whole 'you don't need AA at this resolution' thing is BS.  U need some, just not as much).  Mad Max was the last new AAA game that ran at full 100fps as its pretty optimized, but something like Fallout 4 which is horribly unoptimized runs at about 40-85fps.

But to be a far a new Titan X wouldn't be any better, the games are at fault.  So just don't go in expecting to flawlessly have maxed FPS with ultra settings.  It'll always be playable and over 60 though.  Unless u are fine with lowering settings below ultra, then u might be able too.  Long winded but hope it helped.  It's a beast of a monitor to run but overall game devs just don't optimize their stuff well.

Even though I have this and I love it, no it's really not worth the money unless you have enough disposable income that you don't really care. There are other great monitors for half the cost. For a better deal you may want to look at something like the LG 34UC79G. This monitor has a higher resolution while the LG has a higher refresh rate and this monitor has GSync vs FreeSync on the LG. Bottom line bang for your buck this isn't great even though it is a great monitor.

It has a matte finish.  I have been extremely happy with the color reproduction and vibrancy of the monitor.

Anyone what the dimensions of the stand are?  Specifically the depth (front to back)?

Looking to get a monitor stand to put this on (when it finally comes out) to give it a couple inches more height, so wanna make sure I get that it'll work with.
