Low Quality, Acer Warranty Service is Absolute Garbage 4/24/2019 12:58:11 PM

Pros: It's big, bright, crisp, and beautiful, and I got it for $280.

Cons: TL;DR it drops the DP link and goes black for several seconds intermittently while gaming. Acer's warranty makes you pay to ship the monitor in ($40 for me), and they send the same one back. They failed to fix it twice, and the second time it came back with shipping damage. I've been trying to get this figured out since *November* and it is now April.

More detail: The monitor worked fine for me for about 7 months. I upgraded from a 780Ti to a used RX 580 and not long after I noticed the monitor would drop the display port link and go black for several seconds intermittently while gaming. Not a huge deal usually, but in games like Project Cars 2 or Battlefield it can instantly ruin your whole game. I assumed it was the video card, so I sent it back and bought another. Same issue. Sent it back, this time bought a brand new RX 580. Same issue. Tried various clock/voltage changes on all 3 cards and all always had the issue. Tried 2 other display port cables and 1 other Acer power supply, same issue. I tried this monitor at 1080p and with FreeSync off, same issue. I tried another 1080p monitor that I have, and never saw the issue. At this point the only possible culprit would be the monitor so I contacted Acer.

Acer's warranty service involves them actually repairing the item (you get the same one back), and they make you pay to ship it in. I've never before used a warranty service that sent you back the same item, or that made you pay to ship it in. I paid $40 to ship it and they sent it back saying that it passed their burn-in tests and whatever and that they did nothing. Monitor still has the same issue. I sent it in in the original box that does a good job protecting the monitor and to my dismay it came back in a plain brown box (they warn you in advance of this) - but their idea of protecting the monitor is to lay it FACE DOWN on some round pieces of styrofoam, putting pressure across the screen. Amazingly, it wasn't damaged. I sent it in yet again in the same box (the second time they were nice enough to cover shipping) and they once again claimed they couldn't find anything wrong with it and sent it back. This time, the monitor came back with nice round bruise and two green dead pixels in the lower right corner, and moderate backlight bleed/bruising all along the right side about 1/2 inch in. Now, I have a slightly damaged monitor that's still useless for some games and I have $40 and at least 10 hours of troubleshooting lost to show for it. I don't know what I'm supposed to do now. The way they package the monitor for return shipping is terrible and I'm not surprised it came back damaged. I know it happened on the way back because they didn't make note of it in the repair document, only "light scratches" were mentioned.

It's crazy you have to pay to send it in, it's crazy that they won't just send you back a different monitor, and I'm annoyed that it even has this problem to begin with. You can't play Project Cars 2 when the screen goes black for 3 seconds and it comes back with your car in the wall.

Overall Review: Given the troubleshooting steps I went through I'm 100% sure that the monitor is at fault. It's astronomically unlikely that I got 3 bad video cards in a row, especially when one is brand new.

My only explanations are that either their testing is not good enough (the problem only starts to happen after 30 minutes or so of gaming) or the monitor has some bizarre DisplayPort incompatibility with the RX 580 that they're not seeing because they don't have that specific card. Note that this monitor does NOT have official DisplayPort certification or branding, and so I wouldn't be surprised if their implementation fails to live up to spec.

At this point I would love for them to just send me a different monitor (or a partial refund) but apparently that is out of the question. I like most of Acer's products (I'm typing this on an Aspire E 15 right now that I like very much) but my experience with this monitor has been terrible.

I'm not surprised this monitor has a 2 star rating. It seems highly likely to me that someone knew they had a bad batch of monitors and sold them at a discount.

Monitor Died in 3 months 7/20/2018 4:04:42 PM

Pros: Display was nice while it worked.

Cons: Monitor died in just 3 months out of nowhere, the power button doesn't turn on anymore. I will never buy an Acer product again. I only purchased it because it was on sale for $300 and gave Acer a chance, but I learned my lesson. Not only that, but when the product was shipped, everything was loose inside, no proper padding or anything (I guess that's NewEgg's fault). NewEgg wouldn't help me with this since the 1 month merchant warranty apparently passed. However, it seems like the batch of these monitors they sold were all faulty because I'm reading other buyers experiencing the same thing. Messed up I tell you.

I want a replacement or my money back, but they're making me jump through hoops just to get help.

AVOID. This is a scam, even if the price looks good it's not worth it. Run away. NewEgg and Acer will not help you.

Overall Review: No I would not suggest you buy this, bad customer support.

If you got it when it was on sale for $300 shipped like I did it MIGHT be worth your consideration but beware the QC and design problems 5/30/2018 8:44:38 PM

Pros: Beautiful Accurate Colors, Contrast, Black levels, Brightness, low even ips glow "AT FIRST"...READ THE CONS

Cons: Con #1 Mine was obviously defective, so maybe most of my problems are NOT model based vs me just having a bad monitor.

After a few weeks I noticed the "ips glow" (google it if you don't understand what I'm talking about) getting worse, and worse, to the point where even at 30% brightness in dark scenes, windows 10 task bar or even in a game with semi to fully dark scenes It was like having a pure silver screen or driving head on down the highway towards someone using cheap led headlights "it actually hurt to look at". The monitor was also getting VERY HOT after the glow started increasing. The aluminum bezel around the power and menu buttons while nice and stylish was getting around 120 degrees+...

Con #2 The "HDR" on it was pathetic, I know most if not all current gen monitors under the pro-grade price ranges are not true HDR10 or anything close to it and I wasn't expecting it to be, since like most other brands it's just 8bit+ software for the extra 2 bits of color but still this was pretty bad on the Acer.

Con #3 The stand and it's mounting method are absolutely terrible, you have a 17lb monitor hooked to an aluminum base only held together by a small 1/2 inch long by 1/2 wide tab that inserts into the back of the monitor and snaps into plastic clips. If you bump either the monitor or the desk it's like a bobble head it wobbles so much.

Con#4 "THE BIGGEST PAIN":.... the onscreen display and it's options are terrible, you can't really change much you do get 6-axis color calibration and a few other what I consider must have features but it's limited. Tee main problem is simply that it's a big pain to navigate through like a bios from a 1990's era pc all the buttons are upside down way underneath the front panel and since there are about 6 buttons rather than scrolling you're stuck having having to press alot of buttons just to get in and adjust something simple like the brightness level. Hit the wrong button by accident and then whoops now you get to start all over. Accidentally pressed the next button over and changed to a preset mode? well goodie now when you go back to your custom profile you lost most of your brightness, contrast etc. settings that are now reset to default.

Needless to say I returned this promptly to newegg and went with what I should have ponied the cash up for in the first place the LG 27UK650-W... The difference is literally night and day on the LG. it's faster, Clearer, Completely adjustable stand for pivot, angle, 90 degree rotation, and most importantly height! if you don't like the stand, well then no biggy, the LG has vesa compatibility so you can mount it any way or angle you want.

A great display for it's price with a minor setback. 5/19/2018 1:39:41 PM

Pros: -Very bright crisp display.
-Excellent color uniformity and accuracy.
-No strange light bleed or darkening at the edges.
-IPS glow is about average for it's price range.
-Excellent build quality. It's aluminium frame really gives it a premium look and feel.
-The monitor stand keeps it low on the desk.
-Speakers sound surprisingly descent.

Cons: -It suffers from image retention.
-"HDR Ready" is a gimmick and isn't true HDR such as HDR 10 or Dolby Vision.
-Menu system; like most monitors, isn't the best.

Overall Review: I spent a lot of time looking for a good budget orientated monitor. Since I do graphic design and game I wanted something that works good for both. Being an IPS panel the monitor is better suited than a TN panel of similar size for me. The build quality feels excellent and it has a very premium look to it. Sadly the monitor stand has no height adjustment or VESA mount, but it doesn't sit too high like my neck wrecking 27" iMac does. Speaking of iMac, this screen beats the pants off of my aging late 2013 iMac. I'm not a huge fan of matte screens, but it's brightness and contrast easily make up for it. My only real complaint is the monitor suffers from minor image retention preventing it from getting 5 stars. The image retention doesn't last long and most people probably wont notice it, but I was surprised to see it. It's only really noticeable when switching to a dark or black scene. In spite of this I would still recommend this monitor, especially if you get one sale for the low price I paid.

One huge complaint, which has nothing to do with the monitor itself, involves newegg. They shipped the monitor in its plain retail packaging. Luckily I just happened to be home when it was delivered, otherwise it would have been sitting on the steps of my condo in all it's advertising glory, screaming steal me. Had I known this I would have had it shipped differently.

Pretty display, flimsy tech. 4/24/2018 12:33:54 AM

Pros: Gorgeous Graphics

Cons: Stopped working after around 30 minutes of being turned on.

Overall Review: -Wouldn't recommend.
-The OSD buttons stopped working soon after being turned on. Spoke to Newegg and Acer, was asked to send it in for repairs. Beats the purpose of buying "new" ish tech.

You need 4k except on smallish labtops screens. 4/23/2018 9:00:56 PM

Pros: - surprising good sound from speakers!!
- this is a no-brainer for general PC use, EXCELLENT text quality! Good-by 1440!
- bright clear.

Cons: - blinking blue power LED in standby mode obnoxious.
- screen blinks annoyingly though inputs till locating active connection. I've had several Acer displays, none did these things before???!!!

Overall Review: - works even on Intel CPU onboard 620 graphics, surprising even ran it with an ancient GTX 480.
