Will this monitor work in full 4k using hdmi out from a 2012 15" Macbook Pro?

Hey Chad, unfortunately I own a SurfaceBook and have this working at full resolution through the Mini-Display port, so I can't speak from experience regarding your 2012 ed. MacBook Pro but from what I've heard in forums its this - if you GPU can handle 4K rez, it will render 4K @ 30Hz over HDMI but could do 4K @ 60Hz using the Display port. Hope this helps.

No, Mac Pro from 08-09 is DVI, and mini DP.

How is the AG coating, semi-gloss like a Samsung 4K TV or typical like a grainy AG PC Monitor?

The screen is smooth matte, much better than glossy but you still get very diffused reflections of bright sources.
