The power board WILL fail 4/28/2015 12:18:30 PM

Pros: The model name makes you think you are buying a junior ZR30w.

Cons: This display is a Taitung special, which you will discover after the power board fails after 40 months (or less). The power board is not sold as a replacement part, only the entire head, or the stand. I've found that the ZR30w works with any Displayport drive, but the ZR2740w units we had were all very picky... and would not work with Dell notebooks. HP's answer... "we don't certify this model to work with anything but HP products."

Toast in 1 Hour 2/28/2014 8:44:58 PM

Pros: None

Cons: Got one of these for work just today. After one hour of use, the screen flashed green and the monitor was toast. Tried multiple times connecting the monitor to other machines, using different cables, cycling the power switch, the power supply switch, everything I could think of. The computer see the monitor, but nothing displays on it.

Overall Review: Don't get HP products. They simply aren't worth it.

Very Nice monitor 12/6/2013 7:08:13 AM

Pros: Very clean picture, color is very accurate with no dead pixels at all. Super value for the price even with no color correction ability. The color and other settings can still be adjusted with graphics software.

Cons: can't adjust picture, contrast, hue, or anything except brightness.

Overall Review: I am very happy with the brightness and color of this monitor. The color is very accurate for photography and image processing. Games also look amazing.

Pros: Excellent color, affordable price 18 months ago. Leaps ahead of the competition for value per performance.

Cons: This is the third time my monitor died in 18 months. Always seems to be the power input fails (built in power converter) in simple terms.

DOA 7/16/2013 9:39:11 PM

Pros: N/A

Cons: The monitor didn't work at all. I upgraded my video card. I also bought 3 extra display port cables. It didn't help. What a waste of time.

Overall Review: This monitor that I got was most likely defective. I only got 1280 x 720 resolution once (initially) and after that all I was getting was black screen. I tried it on two desktop PCs and 2 brand new laptops. I also bought a new video card (SAPPHIRE 100311-3L Radeon HD 6970 - that supports even higher resolutions, has dual link dvi and 2 display ports) - it didn't help. I also bought 3 new DP cables and tried all the cables supplied with the monitor.

BUYER BEWARE! 7/4/2013 7:08:33 PM

Pros: High sRGB gamut, WLED-backlit (not sidelit!), excellent color reproduction. Great mid-range display for graphic artists, CAD devs and audio producers. Decent for gaming (don't let the 12ms fool you, the led backlighting improves gray-to-gray response) and other multimedia like videos.

Once you switch to 1440p, going back to anything less is a painful experience. The real estate provided for the price point is excellent and if you get a reliable unit should server you well for a long time.

Cons: HP Tech support is quite possibly the worst I have ever experienced in my entire life. One of the TDMS emitters went out on my unit, causing it to revert to 1280x720 resolution. After testing with a total of 4 computers, HP refused to honor the warranty because I didn't have an HP computer hooked to it, and they blamed all 4 of my computers (a mixture of two desktops and laptops). I have tried 3 different kinds of Displayport cables, 2 kinds of minidisplayport adapters in all possible combinations.

I called a total of 8 times and would either get transferred to nothing (with the call being dropped by their system while in process of transferring) or the support personnel would put me on hold and then drop the call manually. None of the support personnel understood the product (all of them asked what the OSD said, this monitor has none), and none of them even so much as attempted to troubleshoot the problem with me - citing that unless I had connected an HP computer to it, that it was "an unsupported configuration", despite me telling them I had it working perfectly on multiple computers in the past.

Overall Review: I will never buy another HP product in my life.

Great Monitor 5/18/2013 9:09:16 PM

Pros: Accurate color balance. Low screen glare. Very bright whites. Good blacks. Very stable stand. 90 degree rotate works well an it's still as stable. The viewable screen area goes right to the edge. USB ports on the bottom are great because my PC is under the desk. Trackball and keyboard connect through monitor giving me more mobility w/ wired devices.

Cons: These are small issues. The frame is about 3/4 inch on 3 sides and 1 inch on bottom. I wish it was narrower. When raising monitor to swivel screen, the arm has just two settings. It locks in place in the higher setting for using the monitor vertically. In this high position you can use it vertically or horizontally. It would be nice if it could be positioned at any height. I use it horizontally but would like it to be adjustable to a few inches higher.

Overall Review: I like chicken enchiladas.

Good monitor 2/26/2013 7:58:42 PM

Pros: Zero bad pixels, zero stuck pixels. Lots of pixels for real estate. Big. I'm used to HP's 24" so this was a small and worthwhile improvement.

Affordable vs. the alternatives.

Unlike Samsung, HP actually knows how to develop firmware that works with Apple's display port - that's a huge plus. I have both a PC and a MacMini plugged into this monitor and another so that both computers can access both monitors for maximum display options.

For those with newer Mac Mini's with the Mini Display Port, you'll need a Mini to Full size Display Port cable. This one works: NewEgg Item#: N82E16812705060 This monitor uses a Full Size Display Port and the included Full-to-full cable isn't going to fit the Mac Mini. Using that mini-to-full Display Port cable WILL enable the Mac Mini to drive this monitor at maximum resolution. Yummy!

Yes, as others reported, this display lacks OSD adjustment buttons. The only 4 buttons are source, brightness -/+, power. I'm putting this in the "Pros" category because I actually prefer this simplified button option. I never use all those other buttons that other displays offer and now I don't have to worry about pressing the wrong button and trying to figure out how to get out of that mode. Good job HP!

Fewer inputs is also in the "Pros" because I don't like having to cycle through unused connections.

HP provides DVI & Full-size Display Port cables, even though for me I couldn't use the full size DP cable because the Mac Mini uses the mini version. Still, good for HP to try.

The display and stand are pretty beefy, not cheap plastic that's so common with most other displays.

Cons: Anti-glare coating. I prefer my 24" HP glossy coating to this one. It's hard to explain, but the anti-glare coating reduces the contrast as it washes out the colors. While this monitor is cheaper than alternatives, it's still fairly expensive and I wish the quality was better - which it would be if it had a glossy face.

I wish there was some sort of indication where the brightness was at, some sort of scale from 1 to 10? The brightness -/+ buttons have to be held down quite some time or pressed many times to see any significant change in brightness. While that's good to have such fine granularity, I have no idea where I'm at in that scale from min to max.

The HP-provided DVI cable is bulky, and it attaches to the bottom (from behind). In fact, since all of the attached cables drop downward I see lots of wires - not hidden. The DVI in particular hits the table, preventing me from lowering the monitor all the way down.

Overall Review: I planned on getting Apple's 27" LED Cinema Display, same size and resolution (glossy - preferred) but I wanted to save $200 - $300, so I got this one. The 30" displays were also tempting but they run almost twice the cost of this, but are 1600 pixels tall instead of 1440 tall. Those extra 10 percent worth of pixels will be missed.

Overall I think I'm happy with this purchase. I think I'd be happier with Apple's display, but I didn't want to spend that much.
