Pros: - 27" IPS 144 Hz 4ms, 2560x1440 - Works fine with nVidia GPUs.
Cons: - After a couple of years, it got 5 hug dead pixel. - This monitor has 3 years ASUS Rapid Replacement. With ASUS Rapid Replacement, they would give you the replacement first and you send the bad one back, but they refused to do that. They said they don't have it in stock. They want me to send it in, speed 30-40$ shipping for their "ASUS Rapid Replacement" service. Also said that it would depend on the parts meaning I might have to wait for weeks, months...
Overall Review: I would NOT recommend ANY Asus products to anyone because of their RMA service. Dell has the best 3 years advance exchange warranty for most of their high ends monitors.
Pros: Not enough good things to say about this monitor. After I read a few horror stories and expected the worst when my box came somewhat crushed with the seals popped. To my surprise absolutely perfect condition once out of the packaging no bleed nor dead pixels. From the reviews where people complain about the brightness and bleed you have to remember this monitor comes with the back light almost set to full and tuning it down to 28 will bring you from near 40 watt draw to low 20's. Once you have the monitor all hooked up start with a baseline of: GameVisual preset mode Racing Mode Brightness 28-31 Contrast 80 Colour Temp User RGB 100, 96, 96 Trace Free: 80 This will give you the best mix of response time, stable colors, least eyestrain possible and look absolutely fantastic. The AU Optronics M270DAN02.3 AHVA Panel is shared by the Acer XB270HU which costs significantly more. This will hold me over years maybe even a decade.
Cons: No Blur reduction mode and as others have said the free sync range could be higher.
Pros: On paper, a high quality IPS panel good for gaming. Good response time, refresh rate, and FreeSync.
Cons: An unacceptable number of dead pixels (on multiple units).
Overall Review: I had to return my original purchase due to dead pixels (8+). Its replacement also came with dead pixels (6+). And so too did its replacement (5+). And the final replacement (15+) as well. In the end, I received a total of 4 monitors and all had an unacceptable number of dead pixels. I can understand a single monitor having issues, but 4 in a row indicates that ASUS has a quality control problem with this model.
Pros: I didn't realize that 1440p was such an extreme upgrade from 1080p. 60% more workspace is alot more than I expected. The colors are vibrant and accurate. I am very happy about that. No dead pixels or backlight bleeding. Asus seems to do good on QC sometimes. The joystick on the rear make it easy to navigate through the menu.
Cons: Default settings cause text blur (please read): You will need to change the picture settings. It comes with 7 preset picture modes. Default mode is called "Racing" which lowers the sharpness and brightness causing text blur and some ghosting. I found the RTS and FPS picture modes to be a good start and then I just made small adjustments to brightness and contrast to get the picture I wanted.
Overall Review: I wish Asus would change the cable management bracket for once. It should be made of metal and permanently attached. Just add a latch so you can easily rearrange cables if needed, instead of disconnecting everything just to get it through the loops.
Pros: 144hz 1440p IPS Freesync ready (although range does not reach 144hz) Aesthetic Design Large screen size (27in) Decent out-of-box color configuration No hardware issues after 3 years use
Cons: Like other users, I experienced some QA issues. On one hand, I did not have any dead pixels or damaged bezel/monitor parts. However, I did find 3 tiny splotches underneath the panel that cannot be cleaned. They look like oil/fingerprint stains, similar to the tiny stains you might see on the face of the panel after a few months of regular use. Two of the splotches (~2mm) are near the center of the screen and are noticeable with a white background. The third splotch is in an upper corner and tinier (<1mm) than the other two, you really have to look to find it. Knowing that other buyers have had much worse QA experiences I chose not to RMA my product and live with the defects. I'm not overly concerned about these sort of cosmetic defects, but I definitely understand how others could find this extremely annoying.
Overall Review: 3 YEAR UPDATE: My monitor has held up pretty well. I put it through a lot, two long-distance moves, thousands of hours of on-time, but it's doin' great and still no dead pixels! It has developed a couple of tiny white "splotches" across the bottom of the screen, but I'm sure it's my fault for improper handling over the years. The 3 initial splotches it shipped with are still there but I've pretty much gotten used to them. I am in the market to upgrade one of my monitors for a dual-screen 1440p setup and after 3 years of owning one MG279Q I am pretty surprised that not much has changed with regard to whats on the market. I'll probably buy another MG279Q, the price has come down a bit since I purchased mine in 2015 and it will be nice to finally have 2 of the same monitors.
Pros: DOOM and other games look amazing on it. Very clear picture and silky smooth action
Cons: -1 egg because when I set the screen to 144Hz mode, which it is advertised as supporting, I get this odd vertical tear-type of line going down the screen. Does not show up in 120Hz mode. With any other monitor it would really not bother me but when I move on from my current GPU (Fury Nitro) I will no doubt be maxing the frames out and may even go beyond 144fps! And the fact that this monitor cost $490, I should not have to settle for this issue. I hope it is something simple that can be sorted out without a return.
Overall Review: I am considering an RMA due to this issue because again, it would somewhat affect the enjoyment I would get out of this product as well as the fact that it will require me to get a new monitor sooner than I would like.
Pros: - 144hz, 1440p, IPS screen - Freesync with a decent range - Beautiful Colors
Cons: - I wrote a review originally and mentioned I would update it once I received my replacement monitor. You cannot edit Newegg reivews so I have delete it and reposted. - The first monitor I received had a defect in the protective screen of the monitor. A tab of it was above the bezel in the top left hand corner of the monitor. This issue was not caused by shipping/physical damage, but occurred during manufacturing. It also had bad backlight bleed around all edges. I returned this monitor. - The replacement monitor has backlight bleed in bottom right corner that also exacerbates bad IPS glow on the righthand side of the monitor that is visible even without a black background. - Neweggs return policy is very unhelpful. I live on the east coast and they refuse to give anything other than ground shipping labels for returned items, and they also refuse to send advanced replacements even after multiple faulty products are sent. It takes a week (5-6 business days) just to ship the faulty product back, a day or more to process the return, then days to ship the replacement product. In a best case scenario, where you send the faulty product back on a Monday, the fastest return they can do is 9 days. And that's after bumping your replacement to overnight shipping. By the time I get my third monitor it would be nearing a month since my original purchase. - With the quality of these monitors you could request returns until the cows come home and never get a good quality replacement. And If you did hit the lottery It could also take well over a month with how slow the replacement process is. - I would highly recommend against purchasing this monitor in general because of the QA issues, but if you do make sure to buy it from a retailer with a better return policy, as you will likely have to fish for a suitable working monitor - ASUS provides rapid replacement of this monitor for up to 3 years as advertised on this product, but will only send out refurbished monitors as replacements not new. This is also a gamble but at least its a fast gamble.
Pros: Build Quality/QA: Excellent stand that feels solid and rugged, but is perfectly balanced so you can tilt, swivel, and change the height with one finger without it sagging down on its own. I haven't detected any stuck or dead pixels, either. Image quality: They say the mark of a good pair of headphones is that they makes you want to go back and listen to all of your old music again. This is exactly what I felt with this monitor. I have been playing all of my past favorites like Bioshock: Infinite (A game with truly mind-blowing color on an IPS display like this) and Dishonored, and there are details, colors, and textures that I feel like I've never seen before. Images and text are tack sharp. I have not noticed any blurring like was mentioned in one of the earlier reviews. Colors are significantly more vibrant and nuanced than even my previous ASUS IPS display, which was already head and shoulders above the quality of any of my TN panels. - 144Hz I am a huge proponent of temporal resolution over spatial resolution, and the 144hz liquid-smooth picture on this panel is enough to make you wonder how you ever played on a 60Hz monitor before. I spent five minutes just dragging an Explorer window around on my screen just because of how impossibly SMOOTH it looked. When my boyfriend came home later he did the exact same thing; all he wanted to do was look for more things to drag around. - Resolution If you're worried that the jump from 1080p to 1440p won't be noticeable, don't be. The added screen space alone is worth it, and the extra resolution in games means you can turn down that AA and get even better visuals than before. Jaggies are hardly a worry anymore. OSD: The OSD is probably the nicest I've seen, and the tactile buttons are a dream (I don't know why capacitative buttons became so popular, but they need to stop being a thing right away.) The little joystick they have on the back they have for menu navigation means you can adjust almost any option in the menu in under ten seconds. I once changed the color settings in a game mid-firefight and my hand never left the keyboard. Nice bit of ingenuity, ASUS. Included cables: I thought that it didn't come with the DP-DP cable I needed, but I missed the Mini-DP port on the monitor itself. Ran to the store to buy a new one for nothing! That's what I get for being too excited. Finally a company that actually gives you the cables with the monitor. The best I've ever gotten from any other company was a VGA cable, oof! Speakers: It has built-in speakers, neat. They are pretty decent if you need sound in a pinch. They're okay enough that it would be a nice choice for a compact media center, and they include the option of a mini-plug out.
Cons: I can't buy three of them! Not without selling my car, at least. I did have one weird experience with it so far. Apparently it does suffer from some temporary burn-in issues in certain circumstances. I haven't encountered it in actual day-to-day use, but I was experiencing some frustrating OS issues (Goodbye, Windows 10 Technical Preview) that resulted in my monitor(s) just displaying solid red. As I waited for something to happen, I fiddled with the OSD to familiarize myself with the menu, and when I exited it there was a big dark square where the OSD had been. Naturally my heart sank into my stomach thinking my new fancy monitor has just committed screenicide, but after getting into a stable OS and fiddling around with the menus, the square sloooowly sank away. The effect only lasted about 15 minutes, and I haven't been able to repeat it by filling the screen with solid red and leaving the OSD up for a similar amount of time. My theory is that the GPU was getting bad data from the OS and throwing garbage through the DisplayPort line which led it to overdrive the panel somehow. The manual does mention the possibility of burn-in but says that it is always(?) temporary and should go away within a few minutes. Good thing! Lastly, I can't actually seem to get the monitor to reach 144Hz. I think this is a problem with my graphics card, because no matter how many times I try to make a custom resolution at that frequency it never actually saves. 120Hz it is for now until I get my new card with AMD FreeSync!
Overall Review: I rarely review things that I have purchased, but I always make sure to do so when I have found something truly above and beyond. Congratulations ASUS on an outstanding monitor for an outstanding price! This is by far the best monitor I have ever sat in front of, much less owned. I will be updating if I run into any issues in the future.
