Yes it works on CenturyLink for me in WI - Like others have said you will need your username and pw to set it up.  I found it listed on their website with info on how to set it up.  I replaced an older CL dsl router and used the settings from that.  I have an Asus RT-N66U for my router and it connects no problem.

I had gotten the product and attempted to use it. Although they said it was compatible centurylink wasnt able to hook it up even with a tech there. It could have been a hardware issue and not an incompatibility however. I would recommend calling and asking centurylink themselves to be sure.

Question 4

I have a good router, but need a DSL modem that provides a PPPoE interface to the router.  Is there a way of turning off the router in this Modem?

Hi James,

The Actiontec GT701D-NF DSL Broadband Modem Router will do the job. If you wish to read the user manual, it can be found Actiontec's web site. Newegg would not let me put the URL in, so You can find it easily with a simple search.

It will tell you everything you need to know except what your ISP's settings are. You can usually get them from your ISP's support service.

The other thing I would like to mention, if it is of any help. is that what I have found to be crucial is having good wire and connections between the terminal box of your ISP's DSL box and your modem. It makes all the difference in the world.

Is it a wireless modem?

This DSL modem does not have wireless. I have added 2 wireless routers to my home with 2 different subnets so guests can be on a subnet that isn't routable to my servers, but does give them access to the internet.

As another rater said, it's pretty easy to setup. It's also fast and so far, very reliable.

The device only has one port.  Modern Wireless AP's have multiple ports and have USB for storage and printer, firewall, 3 wireless networks, and an input for ONE internet connection to the outside world.  It can be DSL or Cable modems.  This device provide the AP's interface to the DSL world.

If you are looking for higher DSL speeds (>7Mb) , you need to look at an AC1000 with VDSL 50MB technology

To connect to the internet, you really only need network cables to plug from each computer to the DSL modem's router ports.

To secure your network, I recommend you put this in transparent bridging mode, then get a purposebuilt PC for a firewall, and put a free firewall package on it, such as SmoothWall (the free version), which I use and with which I have had very good success for the past decade or so, through 7 updates.

If you aren't sure how to do that, there are plenty of 'howto's to help. Google is your friend.

This is a DSL modem.  We use it with AT&T DSL service.  It sounds like you need a cable modem.  Motorola makes several nice units and a few with wireless capabilities.

No. You need a cable modem. This modem only has RJ-11 (telephone) and RJ-45 (internet) connectors, not an F connector (television coax cable).
