If you want to hook it up to more than one device then yes.  If you are just going to hook it into you PC or one device then no.  This item is a standalone modem only, it does not have a built in Ethernet switch or a wireless hotspot.

It is not wireless.  There is a single gigabit ethernet port on the back that you would plug into another router.  If you want wifi, the separate router provides the wifi.

Best advise I can give you is to contact your cable service and ask them if their network will support this model, each cable company is different. As for download speed that will depend on your tier you subscribed too.

No, U-Verse is DSL not cable.  Netgear WNDR4300, which will work with any modem.

this device is meant to be used with Time Warner and other Cable broadband internet service provider only.
AT&T IS uses different devices, usually Motorola NVGxxxx series for home/residential or the 2Wire brand modems.
it's always better to ask att technical support for the list of compatible modems if you don't plan to use the equipment they send you

It all depends on the router and the service provider. I have it in use with Time Warner, 50MB. Works great. The service provider gives the internet and the router is the one that has to share this connection. If you have many users, use a switch with many connections, like a 24 or 48, instead of a switch behind a switch, behind a switch. Modem -> Router -> Switch -> Users.

This cable modem does not have a phone jack, only the coax port for the co-axial cable from the cable company.

If you have a dual modem from your cable company that handles both voice and internet, you won't be able to get rid of the old modem (which still supplies support for the phone).

Hi John, I'm not sure if it is compatible with Cox internet. I bought mine for Time Warner internet. I'm sure you can go to Cox's website to find out if they have a list of compatible modems as Time Warner provided one for their customers. I purchased this modem and it was easy to hook up and it works great
