Does this work for centurylink?

Yes, but only with a router with PPPoE capabilities. In other words, Centurylink requires a user name and password for the initial setup, but this modem doesn't have that feature. Most routers do have this feature, so you hook up the modem to the router, go into the router's menu, and enter your Centurylink username and password through the PPPoE option in the router.

Will this modem work with AT&T dsl?

Yes it will. I use it for their ADSL services, works great! 
You will have to use pppoe on your desktop or use a wireless router for your logon credentials. Note: it only works on ADSL (over the phone line, standard rj11 connector), it will not work with cable internet (ie: UVerse).

Yes, it works with AT&T DSL only, not with U-verse.  It's not an AT&T sanctioned modem so they won't support it, if that's what you mean by Motorola.

This will work for Century Link as that's the provider that I'm currently using for internet services. Century Link use to give out free routers, but stop doing so, which is why I purchased this device to replace the old router they use to give out for free.

There are not hardware versions for modems, usually. I am not sure if it ships with the latest firmware, but version 8 is available on the website.

Not sure what question Alan W was answering...But THIS MOST CERTAINLY IS an ADSL modem.  Given the long list of compatibility standards in its documentation, I would say that it IS compatible with AT&T DSL service; as far as your Netgear router is concerned, they (Netgear) are the most widely compatible router makers out there...so I would be 90% sure that you will have no problems right out of the box, or if you do, they can be resolved quickly by tech support.

I have AT&T dsl and was looking for a replacement for the Motorola junk modem that I had replaced twice already in 6 years. Installed this modem about 4 months ago and I've had no issues...YET. Installation for me was a snap but I say that because I was and still am running my setup in what is called "pass-thru" mode. That means I am using my router to handle security duties (firewall, password etc...). Basically all I did was replace the old modem with the TP-LINK, waited for about a minute or so it to sync up and Voila! I was online in no time. If you want to use this modem as your security gateway then you will need to consult the documents and installation disc included with this modem and have your username and password(s) from your isp handy. Would this modem work with a VDSL line? I currently use a router with a built-in VDSL modem. I am thinking about upgrading my router to a new one and getting this modem. The thing is, I am not sure if this is compatible with a VDSL line. Do you guys know? Thanks.

Sadly, no. I actually got this hoping to use with VDSL and spent 30 minutes on the phone with a CenturyLink agent working through her script before we together realized I had a VDSL line to my home, and this doesn't work for VDSL. Turns out VDSL-compatible modems are rare... I ended up getting CenturyLink's proprietary modem/router combo. It's worked fine but it sure felt like a ripoff at $99, since I already owned a router of my own. Oh well, in the end I'm avoiding Comcast, at faster speeds, for $10 less a month.
