Does this work with Verizon?

IT only works with the type of internet that uses the same wall plug as your cable, that's why it's called a cable modem. It's not a Wi-Fi router which is what I think you probably need.

will this works with xfinity internet and phone service?

it should work with any cable provider provided that your subscribed tier is within the limits of this unit which pretty much every cable provider cant push more than 350Mbs downstream. As for phone, NO. this does not have any voice ports on it.

What is the difference between this 7610-E and the 7610? I'm assuming it's more than just the packaging, given the $5 price difference.

As far as I can tell, it's just the packaging. The "E" comes in "Frustration Free Packaging" (plain brown cardboard box, maybe intended for installers), and without the "E" in a shiny retail package designed for a store shelf.
