Will the Asus CM-16 pair with an Asus RT-N56U wireless dual band router? (I realize it is a bit older model) What are the router's limitations in this pairing?

Not sure what you mean by pairing? I have Spectrum an get over 300Mbps with no issue actually has been a very good modem I had a motorola surfboard extreme back when Time Warner was around but spectrum took over changed something in their servers so it would only get up to 150Mbps, So I got a TP Link that was on the list of supported modems, it was good had a few connect issues also ran a bit warm, this Asus however no issues.

Does it work with CableVision/Optimum?

You just need to confirm that your Internet Service Provider works with the typical cable modem language Docsis 3.0.

I would say 99% yes this will likely work if you need a CABLE MODEM and not a DSL modem... unless they have very old tech. It works with our little local ISP and it works with all the major providers like Spectrum, Comcast and Charter.

Does this work with Google Fiber?

I wouldn’t see why not, but I have not tried it. I can confirm it works on Cincinnati Bell fioptics, Time Warner, and Spectrum fiber. Highest bandwidth I’ve been able to test was 200.. and the modem had no trouble. Sorry I can’t speak to Google Fiber though

Does anyone know if their model has slight coil whine as well??!! I keep hearing a high pitched noise either coming from the power supply or the unit itself!

I got a refurbished one and there is no coil whine at all.  3 months use so far.
