does this work with an Avaya 9608 phone?

Yes it does. We have the 9860 and have used this adapter with it. I don't remember if this was plug and play or if there was a simple setting on the phone that you had to change for it to work. I believe the setting was for an "Alert" to be sent to the headset of incoming calls but that's going off memory. You don't need an amplifier with this either. We didn't get them and I've had no complaints about the loudness or sound quality.
