is this compatible with win 7 64 bit?

Sorry for the delay...not sure when you submitted this question exactly. I am NOT very tech competent, but yes, it did work on my ASUS laptop on which I was running Windows 7 64 bit. I have subsequently updated to Windows 10 and it has also worked with that operating system. However, I have had some problems getting it to work initially. the system showed that it was working but no sound would come out at first. You may have to work with the speaker controls on your "control panel" or alternatively (...keeping in mind my limited tech skills) is that you have to make sure you plug it into the correct USB port. My understanding is that there are 2 different USB ports. They both accept a USB cable, but they have different output capacities. I am thinking that I got it to work when I connected it to the higher USB output port.

My PC is an old Powervault that does not have a sound card in it.  Will this allow me to play audio even though I don't have an internal audio card?

I don't know anything about powervault, but you don't need an internal sound card to the best of my knowledge

Correction to my previous statement. It looks like it will. The product page on the manufacturers website shows that it will support it.

Question 4

Can I use a regular pair of headphones with this sound card, or is it just for surround sound? I want to use a mic while also being able to hear the sound output from my computer in the headphones.

I used the unit as a interface to input audio tapes to my computer. If you have mini jacks for headset and mike I don't see why it would not work.

Does this work 5.1 sound with windows 7 home premium?

I have Windows 8, not Windows 7 or Windows 8.1.  It works with Windows 8.  I do not use it for listening to sounds via speakers, I use it for detection and generation of audio frequency digital signals in conjunction with an amateur radio station.  That means it works with line input and front audio output.  I am pleased with it.

there is one line-in, one mic-in, which leads me to believe the line-in is stereo, as mic-in is generally mono. i don't know about working at the same time because i have not used the inputs. but i will say that it has a fair number of configurations, so I imagine it could
