will this work for cat 5?

Yes. 'Currently have CAT 5e punched down on this panel. I see gigabit traffic all over the network without issue. I can only presume you're intending to use CAT 5e with this panel which will allow you to obtain gigabit speeds (assuming you're communicating between 1000BASE-T devices). CAT 5 might struggle to hit those numbers due to increased crosstalk.
