This is a one time purchase, it's not part of any office package.  I've had it for awhile and I'm happy with it.  If you don't need excel, publisher, one note and what ever else comes in the package, this is the way to go.

I couldn't tell you.  It wouldn't load on my computer.  I bought it for home use but it's not for the public.  It is for computer builders or companies like Dell or HP to load on their computers to send to retailers.  To use this program you need other software in combination with it.  I asked for assistance, but no response.  Sorry I can't answer your question.

does microsoft word need microsoft office to work on windows 8?  also is this 64 bit?

Microsoft Word 2013 does not require Microsoft Office 2013 to work on Windows 8.  It is a completely full version and not an upgrade version.  This software is compatible in either 32-bit or 64-bit.

Is this item a new first version that I can down load to my new Dell laptop or is it an update that you need a older version? Also what do you mean by Microsoft 2013 Product Key Card.

The item is a completely new version this year that you must download from the Microsoft Office website.  You will need to create a username and password in order to download Microsoft Word 2013.  The software does not require an older version as the box does not mention the word "upgrade".  The product key card is proof that you purchased from an online or retail store.  You simply need to enter your key card on the Office website before installing Word 2013.

Yes.   They sent the box but it only came with the key.     I would have preferred to have the disc as well.   I had to send my computer in for repair and got a new hard drive while I was at it.  When I went to reinstall it, the old drive was still on the computer so I'm not sure if that is why I didn't have a problem.

We bought the Word 2013 to use for Windows 7, so I cannot answer the question about XP.  It was compatible for Win 7.

Is this a read - write program?  It says it has new read capabilities but nothing about writing. Second question can I get this program on a cd or dvd?

Not sure what you're asking on whether it's a read/write program. It's a full version of Word in which you can read and write.

It's a key card only, no media. You install the program from Microsoft office site, and then use this key card to activate the product. There may be option on office site to order media, but it's meant to be a download product from what I understand. Hope that helps!

I am buying this for friend.  Do they receive the box and product key in the mail?  Meaning, is something shipped to them with this product?

And yes, they will receive a small box (I received mine through the US postal service) that has the product key and some instructions inside. All in all it took about five minutes to install and it's a reliable program as ever!

Yes, once you receive the product key card and create (or have an existing) Microsoft account.

Go to the download site listed on the product key card, enter the product key and sign-in to your Microsoft account and start the download.
