Dell tries hard to not publish manuals, but one review site showed it has a single PCIe X1 slot, and two PCI slots. This particular network adapter shows as PCI, so it should be fine.

Drivers for the Intel network cards are fairly common, I have no reason to doubt it would install without issues, but Vista has been known to be picky. Of all the adapters which have lots of drivers, it would be this brand or one with a Realtek chipset which should do the job. Intel tends to have a bit higher performance.

Hi.  I was wondering if this card will work in an old Dell Dimension 8200?  P4 2.0     Is this card low profile?  Also - will I see much of a boost in speed with the bus in this machine?  I just installed Google Fiber in my home.  (This is not my main computer but I do use it as a server).

No it will not work in your Dell Dimension 8200. It is low profile and includes both brackets but your system will not support this card. It may, and I state may, get recognized but your speeds would be lower than acceptable. Google fiber? (I'm envious of you) It will not even use 5% of the fibers bandwidth. Come to think of it with the PCI running at only 32bits it may not even connect. Your system was released in 2002 correct? It is really time to upgrade my friend. I will gladly help if I can if only to experience Google Fiber. 8P You can check out Dells recondition site for discounted systems that are very good price point. I would like to use this on a Windows 7 32-bit system (to be installed on an aging ASUS P4P800 Deluxe MB) but the specs don't mention being compatible with Windows 7. Will it work? It's rather expensive for a NIC card and I don't want to waste the money if it's not compatible.

Yes, it is Windows 7 compatible.  I have around 50 of these installed in Dell desktops running both XP and 7.  I don't believe it ships with the driver, do a Google search for Intel Network Connections PWLA8391GT to find the correct driver... Intel Network Connections is actually a "multi-device" driver that will Identify any Intel NIC and install the correct driver.  Hope this helps, James.

I have a Dell xps 8300 Will this fit into my Dell computer?

I looked at Dell's web page for this, the xps 8300 manual says these would be the bus slots available:

Mini-PCIe one mini slot
PCI Express x1 three 36-pin connectors
PCI Express x16 one 164-pin connector
SATA four 7-pin connectors

Sorry...no PCI bus slots listed for the Dell xps 8300. Probably you want the PCIe x1 (PCI express x1 or single lane), assuming it is not filled. Sometimes the video card will cover the slot as well just because they are so wide...in which case the slot cannot be used. Look for the shortest slot, PCIe x1 is about an inch or so long.

Intel "Pro" is fine, but without the right connector, there'll be nowhere to plug it in.

FYI, there is a mini-PCIe network card available at NewEgg, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you're comfortable working with odd hardware or the x1 slot is not available. Not particularly difficult, but slightly odd to install compared to a regular slot. They're tiny and the cable connector is a separate step.

My Ethernet outlet on my desktop does not seem to be talking with my router.  My laptop with WiFi gets on the internet using the router and modem so I am pretty sure that this combo is working.  I can not connect to internet with the desktop.  Desktop is plugged into router using an Ethernet cable.  Does the desktop adapter listed above bypass the internal outlet on my mother board intended for Ethernet connections?

Hi George H: It doesn't bypass it. It works in parallel. It becomes another way you can connect, so after installing this card, you can connect the cable to the new adapter. So after installing this, you will have the original LAN ports (you can enable or disable them on the motherboard BIOS), and the new one. By the way, before buying this card, you can do a few tests. Check your BIOS (press DEL as it boots) to check that the ports are enabled. Once the operating system booted, ping the router: on the terminal program (cmd.exe in windows) run PING 192.168.1.1 and see if the router responds. If it does, the problem may be something else, because the connection is there. Another test: change the cable, as sometimes they fail. Best luck!

I am not sure I understand the question ---- This card, like the Linksys, uses the older PCI bus but it supports gigabit speed -- It does not require drivers as Windows and Linux and FreeBSD (not OSX) support it OOTB (out of the box)

So in general; yes this would be an ideal replacement for the Linksys card

This is an Intel universal PCI network card. It is good for up to 1000mb down internet. If you're talking about the network card on your motherboard then this can be used in place of that. As long as you have a PCI slot available on your motherboard. As far as I can remember it doesn't require a driver download, you should be able to plug it in and use it.
