Is this compatible with Windows 7?

A router is independent of any operating system.   So long as the os can open a web page, it will be able to work with this router.

So quick answer....   YES it is fully compatible wit Windows 7 (and 8, 9, 10, ....   Mac OS's,  Linux, Android, ....)

is this compatibile with windows xp?

Yes, it's compatible with XP.

I've personally handled literally hundreds of routers across several brands: Netgear, Linksys, DLink, Trendnet, Belkin, TPLink, etc. I've never run into a router that was incompatible with Windows XP. The closest I've seen to an incompatibility is that some older Trendnet routers don't work well with older versions of Firefox. For them, you have to use Internet Explorer.

The only exception to this is Apple Airport routers (personally, I detest these routers!) To my knowledge, you cannot program them right out of the box without downloading a utility from Apple's website. And even then, all of the routers i've mentioned above will give you far more options than the Apple Airport router (granted, most of the options don't matter to 99.9% of all users out there, but still).

I've purchased hundreds of these Netgear routers and have never had a problem with them.

Is this Docsis 3.0? I need it to work with Comcast internet service.

I believe you're looking for a modem, and not necessarily a router. Check comcast's list of supported docsis 3.0 modems on their site.

Is this router a wnr2000 v2 or a wnr2000 v3? Makes a difference which version of DD-WRT will be needed for it, if I want to go that route.

I got a v3, it's possible it could be any version.

Just a note, it's very difficult to get it on the v3 even when it supports it. Trust me, I tried. It has limited RAM space so it's better to get a more expensive (Buffalo) router.

Does this have the docsis 3.0 functionality ? Trying to see if this works for comcast .. Please let me know

This is an 802.11n router, I think you are confusing this with a cable modem. Any DOCSIS 3.0 modem should work. Try the Motorola SB6121 or 6141. I am using the 6141 with 3 of these routers with TWC at 50Mbps. See this from the Comcast website

Do you mean a 12 volt AC adapter? If so, the unit comes with a 12 volt AC adapter.

Can this unit be used as a repeater/range extender for my current Netgear wifi router?

Yes, if you can get a copy of the manual, the router supports "access point mode".  I have mine as an access point for an ASUS router which provides DHCP for itself and the WNR2000

why does it keep shutting down?

I think it is over heating and shutting down or the router Processor is bad and you will need to replace the router.

Yes but turn off Dynamic assignment and radio, it becomes a switch.
