how many users can it handle at a time we have 3 internet wifi users in the house at one time does it slow when multiple users are on?

This will be able to handle much more than 3 users/devices. The problem you experience when you have slowness has to do with what kind of thing your users are doing. Look into enabling some sort of QoS or getting an increase in speed from your ISP, as the problem of slowness does not have to do with the router, but rather your available internet speed.

Can i hook this up as a modem and router to my DSL internet ?

This is strictly a router (with a built in IP switch and WiFi access point). You will still need a DSL modem from your internet service provider to convert the DSL signal coming over your telephone line into an ethernet signal that this device can distribute throughout your house via wire or wifi.

I have a 2 story house, wireless computer, phones, printer, tablets. We don't stream movies or do gaming. Would this be a good router for us?

Hi Linda,
We have been using this router in a 2-person household for nearly two years, and, as far as I know, it has performed flawlessly.  Our house is 2 stories, with composite siding, and ~2200 square feet total.  We keep the router near the front of the house, centrally-located on the 2nd floor, and it provides 100% Wi-Fi coverage to all rooms.  It is also strong enough that we can access the signal outside of the house in many parts of the yard and within our driveway.  We use cabled connections for our laptops when working near the router for the extra speed (usually when connecting to work or school), but rely on the Wi-Fi when using our laptops for casual/temporary use downstairs.  We also use the router with multiple tablets.  We have a cable modem for internet access, and the router is powerful enough that we can stream movies and do other high-bandwidth activities (e.g. videos, music, facetime, etc.) on at least two devices simultaneously without trouble.  It is easy to set-up, easy to secure, easy to re-set (if needed), and there are plenty of indicator lights on the front panel to let you know that it is working.  It is small enough to sit on a shelf, bookcase, or desk, and it takes up very little space.  It has extra features (e.g. USB port) that we don't use yet, but might someday if the need arises.

No. This is a router, not a cable modem. You need to buy or lease a cable modem and connect it to the WAN port of the router. My personal preference is NOT to have a single combined cable modem/router combination device.

This is a wireless router, not a cable modem. The "Internet" connection is Gigabit Ethernet, backwards compatible with 100 Mbps, 10Mbps. This box is what should be plugged into your Time Warner compatible cable modem to provide a local wireless network. As long as your cable modem has a LAN jack (a RJ45 jack) it will work.

If you're actually looking for a cable modem (the box that turns your cable TV connection into a network connection), search Newegg for a "DOCSIS 3.0" cable modem. Also, no doubt Time Warner has a list of approved cable modems. It shouldn't be too hard to find on their website. Search Newegg for boxes on that list.

is this router gaming and streaming compatible?

I'm not a gamer so I have can't say whether the WNDR3700 is game-worthy or not.  I do however, stream movies with it from my office to our television in our family room about 40 feet away.  I have a 5GHz Linksys network bridge hooked up to the TV and have been streaming Blu-ray movies up to as large as 36GB size without issue.  I would definitely recommend it for streaming and based on that I'd have to say I see no reason why it wouldn't be good for gaming.

One comment.  As you probably know, this router has a USB port.  I store my movies on a 3TB hard drive which is connected to the router via this port.  It streams movies effortlessly.
