can I plug the network side into a switch not the router?

I hardly know enough about all this, but I see no reason why not.  I can tell you that they will not communicate through 4 circuit breakers, even in an otherwise clean environment.  No surprise.  Netgear doesn't even hint at more than one or two.  I found that I could get a connection through two breakers and may try working with that by wiring around two.  Good luck.

Can more than one computer use this?  If not, is there an adapter that can be purchased?  My use is for gaming.

Out of the box, the adapter can only be used with one ethernet equipped pc. I would assume You could use an ethernet to wireless adapter to add multiple connections or maybe an ethernet switch?

Question 3

Our main computer is connected to the router. My desktop has a pci express wifi card in it. If I connected the second adapter to the ethernet port in my desktop would I still need my wifi card?

You can connect a computer directly to the adapter and be connected to the network/internet, that will work.

In my case I have these on two different sides of my 1900 sq ft house. One side can process at speeds of 80-90 mbps. The other side can process speeds 110-120 mbps.

My laptop can process wireless speeds of 55-65 mbps from the first side of the house and 135-145 mbps on the other side using the ASUS RT-AC87U router. So wireless is faster on one side and the adapater is faster on the other side. 
Router is in the middle of the house.

last but not least my son connects his business laptop to an adapter in the basement of his house and the router on the other side of the 3400 sq ft house and up one level. Works perfect for him in that location.

Question 4

Can you plug a surge protector into the outlet that is built into the powerline adapter safely? Only asking because I know you aren't supposed to daisy chain.

Yes you can, plugging a power strip into the provided outlet will not cause problems. Only if you plug the powerline adapter into the power strip would you have issues.

Question 5

Are these two home plugs identical?  For example, I have three televisions to hook-up.  Therefore, if they are identical, I would need to purchase two kits.

However, if the home plug that hooks to the router is different from the other home plugs (output), I would need to buy a kit and two single output home plugs.  If this is the case, does Netgear sell single output home plugs?

Yes they are identical, but as soon as you hook up one on the router, you can't interchange them. If you need more, I suggest you buy all that you need in one purchase so that setting it up will be easy. Otherwise, you need to factory reset every plugs if you need to add plugs in an existing(if you already have plugs) network of plugs.

You can't buy a single(PLP1200) plug for the purpose of adding a plug in your network, you will have to buy a kit again and those two plugs will work in your existing network but you'll have to do a reset as I said earlier.

Question 6

How are you supposed to add battery-backup to this? Is it possible to add AC adapter power input from UPS or rechargeable AA battery? Or, is it that there's simply no way to protect powerline Ethernet adapter from power outage?

There isn't a way to add a rechargeable AA battery. I don't think there is a way to protect the adapter from power outages. When the power cuts, the product also stops functioning. When the power comes back on, it picks up right where it left off.

Does this block the top outlet from using a three prong plug?

I already have a powerline adapter set, one plugged in and connected to my wireless router.  Can these powerline adapters be used as 2 extra adapter's 4 other outlets for separate multimedia devices away from my router?

Yes. I currently have 3 (2 different manufacturers also) that are all connected to one another.

I was wondering if there is a distance limitation? I would like to use between adjacent buildings where both have power drops connected to the same street transformer. Has anyone used these in this configuration?

The box says up to 500M limit on the powerline but they are also sensitive to line noise. I think you would have too much noise going through the transformer but I have not tried it.

Question 10

Does this type of product work with multiple breaker boxes.  I have one box upstairs which runs the main and upper floor.  Main floor is where the wireless is.  Lower floor is on a separate box.  I want to run the wireless on the main and then get (2 kits?) to run a line to upstairs and downstairs.  Is this possible.  Do I need 4 boxes to do this or just 3 and do they sell single devices?

Event though have have two panels, you probably have only one power meter. The panel in the basement is probably a sub-panel to the upper floor. I think these come in pairs only but you would only need three devices and use the security button to peer them together. Keep the last one as a spare.
