We presently have a laptop running Vista, a laptop running Windows 7, an I pad,an android smart phone and a smart TV. Will the Linksys ea 4500 router work with all these items?

Yes it will,  just fine... I am running win 7, win10, win XP machines and 4 BluRay players,  along with 2 tablets & 2 smart phones... Run great. Just remember that it also depends on what you have coming in for Internet,  cable, etc...  For what bandwidth speed you can be provided. But this router can handle a lot.

Question 2

Will this pass thru 20mbps internet I have an e4200 the out put is less than 7mbps out put?

your e4200 should easily pass 20 mbps.  Have you tried running your speed test with a direct connection instead of wireless?  Sounds like you might have a wireless signal strength issue.  The EA 4500 does have excellent wireless coverage - I get > 100 mbps wireless in all parts of my 2 story house (router is in an upstairs bedroom opposite from master bedroom, where I still get excellent signal and bandwidth on 2.4, the 5 signal is marginal), including outside about 50 feet from the router.

How many devices can I run off my e4200? my download speeds are a pathetic 23.79 and upload is 1.82. I'm starting to get really poor preformance

I have several items running off without any interruptions in setvice. DIRECTV, up to three phones, a laptop or two. You may have to go to your settings and shut off the 5.6ghz line. I was having trouble when both frequencies were running. Otherwise,  it may be your ISP.

Does it work with ADSL connection?

It will work with any kind of uplink you can provide, including cable, DSL, satellite, etcetera. The only requirement is that you have the appropriate modem, and the ability to connect to that modem with a standard network cat 5 cable.

"Distance". Maybe you mean: at what maximum distance does this router support effective communication with wireless devices. Better than my previous wireless router, one that was at least 8 years old and could only transmit at 11mbps, and had sp,e problems reaching devices at the furthest locations in my home. This router works very well within my 2 story home, with PCs, tablet, smartphones, reaching all rooms and levels of my home, with speeds observed at up to 72 mbps. No dead spots.

Question 6

When I attempt to access the router from a pc that has IE 11 installed I receive a message saying "Browser not supported". Anyone else having this problem? Any workaround? Using another browser is not an option for me.

Since I do not have IE11, I did not have this problem. But maybe you can try IE11 using IE's "compatibility mode" back to IE10. Or try a temporary installation of Firefox or Chrome downloaded from a different router.

Are you saying that the ROUTER cannot be installed? If the router is installed, then it must be the web site that cannot tolerate IE11, and IE's "compatibilty mode" would be the path to follow. 
Use IE's "tools" gear symbol to get to this approach.

Question 7

Since my Macbook Pro Mid 2013 doesn't have DVD drive built-in, can I instal the Router Software Online ?

The only software that I see being installed is a link to the router's ip address, 192.168.1.1 . According to the Linksys support site, you should be able to connect the router, go to 192.168.1.1 and logon with admin as the default username and password. You should then be able to setup the router and change the password. I can't verify this as my router has already been setup using the cd. I hope it all works out ok for you.

Question 8

Linksys advertises this as being Internet connected so that I can manage the home network from anywhere.  Can I turn that off, so that the only way to access the router & home network is from home, or by hardwired connection, and not via some undefined remote location?

This is a wireless signal router. Which can be set up to have a password so not just anyone can leech your internet. More or less anywhere just talking about the wireless signal range via which is pretty wide range. Anywhere more or less anywhere in you're house via wireless signal. Plus you can access any router from anywhere via ip address.

how many users can be connect to the wireless internet at one time with this device?

I have had up to five people on this without any trouble. I've not done a test for maximum capacity.

what is the difference between this router and the Linksys EA4500 App Enabled N900 Dual-Band router? thanks

There is possible minor hardware and/or software changes to the core networking settings. But mainly the obvious difference is the EA4500-NP ships with the cisco connect app enabled firmware. bottom line if you don't want cisco/linksys mining you're data downgrade the firmware when you get it. reverts the unit to the standard linksys router config screen. And yes everytime you access the router with the cisco connect firmware installed it dumps all you're usage to cisco/linksys. This is enough I will never pay my money for a linksys product if this is how they treat their customers. what they are doing is illegal and it requires a search warrant or court order to do what they have the cisco connect firmware set to do by default. cisco/linksys already lost in the 3 major courts in Australia for this firmwares illegal activities.
