Question 1

I want to make my old Okidata C 5250 color printer wireless.  I have been cabled to my laptop (USB).  I have a wireless lan.  I run Windows 8.1 with another wireless printer.  is this the best solution.  Or make a better solution?

Hello I am not an expert on this and I am not seller,

That said, I used it with an HP 4600 on Win 7 pro and Win 7 enterprise computers on the network.

The manual and CD that come with it are old and only for Win XP installs but as I mention it worked fine with Win 7. You'd have to just try it to see if it works with Win 8.

Also, I think there is a list on the D-link website that shows compatible printer models. Mine wasn't listed but did work.

will this work with an old hp 450c plotter?

yes, we are using the 6 I bought with older zebra printers, but I used to be in the sign business and still have several clients with the older hp plotters.  as long as it has a centronics printer connector it will work.

the plotter may or may not support bidirectional communications. but there are 2 settings in the setup to change for that.

Is this compatible with Windows 7?

I believe so.  After much struggling with it I went to a Parallel/usb cable for my HP 5 laser printer.  Windows picked right up on the new device and it has been working great for over a year now.

Question 4

I have a Okidata 320 dot matrix printer. Will this work running  on a hp pavillion with windows 7 and can I do it wirelessly?

We actually have a couple of these running Okidata 520's in our office.  The interface for the D-Link is managed through a web browser (just like most routers), so Windows 7 on any computer should work fine.  The only outgoing data port on the device is an ethernet port, so connecting it to your network wirelessly is not really an option.  Although, if you connect it directly to your wireless router you'd at least be able to access it from your computer wirelessly.  I hope that helps.

Is this compatible with a HP Laserjet 5?

It should be.  The Print Server is operating system agnostic.  If you can create a standard TCP/IP printer port, it should work.  The instructions for creating the port are excellent and apply to all versions of Windows from 98 to 8.

Question 6

When connected to my HP Laserjet 4000, will it be able to print emails, notes, etc. from my iPad 2. Will this be possible?

I don't think so.  If it supports airprint then yes but I don't see that feature in the device configuration screen.  If you have a mac and use this device to connect the mac to that printer then you could share the printer on the mac and airprint from your ipad.  If you are looking for something else that will turn a printer into a network printer, look for the airprint capability.  Sometimes this is also called Bonjour services.

Is this print server compatible with mac OS?

Yes, but the printer you're actually connecting it to is definitely a big part of the equation.

For example, we're printing from a Mac to a brother label printer (connected using the D-Link) and figuring out the driver & printing method was more of a challenge than getting the D-Link to work.    Once it was set up it's been rock solid.

Question I just installed used the windows 7 install method they had on Dlink's website because it wouldnt let me open the cd rom software.  I have 6 other computers on this network do I have install it to each other computer or can I just find the printer and add it.

Second question in the install guide it told me to choose local printer is that correct?

It's been a little while since I've done this, but as I recall, I just used the web configuration from the manual.  Connect the D-Link to your printer and router.  Go to one of the computers on your network (you may have to temporarily change the computer's IP address to match the D-link's subnet 192.168.0.xxx if yours doesn't already match) and connect to the D-Link through a web browser at http://192.168.0.10 then configure the D-Link for your network settings.  If you do need to change you computer's IP address, remember to change it back when you're done.  After the network settings are worked out you should be able to add the printer to the computers on your network using the standard Windows "Add a Printer" wizard.  Use the install a network printer option.  If your printer doesn't show in the window click on "The printer that I want isn't listed" button and it should show up in the list.  After the wizard guides you through installing the printer driver you should be all set.  Just repeat the "Add a printer " process on any other network computer that you want the printer to work with.  I hope that answers your question or at least gives you a place to start.

Can anyone tell me the specific type of centronics connector this unit has?

This is the full size centronics connector used by older printers. There is a micro-centronics that some of the preUSB printers used, this will not work on those. You need to full size 36 pin port.
