Here's what I'm looking to accomplish:

I just bought a new computer, and at the same time I'm still using my old computer.

I'm finding that I need internet access on both computers, but not at the same time.  I want to avoid plugging in and plugging out from the modem.

Is this the correct device for me to use with a cable modem, so that I can leave each computer plugged in?

Yes - this will work for you.  Just connect your network connection from your internet modem and then the two network cables from your two computers and you should be able to accomplish what you are looking for.

Hi, I want to get a wired router to replace wireless router for home LAN system - my whole apartment is wired with LAN and I have an outlet from the wall to connect. Will this fit the bill? I want to minimize my family's exposure to wifi signals around the house. My wireless router does the same thing but it still emits signals so I was wondering if this one will fit the bill. Thank you for your help.

Yes, you can replace your wireless router with this wired router.  You simply connect the WAN port on this router to your internet modem.  Then you can hard wire computers to the open LAN ports on the router; it will give you 4.  However, you can also set up both wired and wireless simultaneously.  I use this router both ways.  My setup is like this:  Internet modem-->Trendnet router WAN port then Trendnet LAN port 1-->computer 1, Trendnet LAN port 2-->computer 2, Trendnet LAN port 3-->computer 3, and Trendnet LAN port 4-->my wifi router which then serves our Wifi notebook and Wifi reader devices.  This way, you have the benefit of both hardwired and wifi connectivity.

This works with internet and tv cable, correct?

I believe so, but the one I bought didn't last very long and since then my TV provider has made me use its modem.  If you cable computer has provided you with a modem, then you don't this .

Will this router work with a MAC rather than a PC ?

Doug, I'm afraid I can't be of much help here. It worked fine and the price was great, but soon after purchase, my ISP upgraded all of my hardware and software. I use a Windows PC, so I'm not much help at all

Will this router work with a ViaSat  Satellite modem?

I am not personally familiar with ViaSat, but, have you successfully used a router with this system before? If you have, and it worked, this product should also work. However, from what I understand, your internet connection with ViaSat is pretty fast, so you might want to determine if 100Mb is fast enough, or if you need the WAN port to be 1000Mb.

Here is what I located online about using routers with ViaSat's Exede modem (when in doubt, Google is your best friend):

Connected via Ethernet to the Exede by ViaSat modem, your PC will have Exede's high-speed Internet access, whether in your home or in your small office. You may connect your PC directly to your Exede by ViaSat modem with an Ethernet cable, or you can attach a wireless hub or router to your Exede by ViaSat modem and connect wirelessly (using the popular 802.11 standards for example)."

I purchased my router 2 months ago as a backup for a failing router, and, coincidentally, I JUST finished connecting it when your email arrived. I can tell you that the installation took a mere 5 minutes, and, it was ONLY that long because I was double-checking everything along the way. So, even if you need a faster router, stick with Trendnet. I've also been using one of their 16 port internet switches for years.

What difference does it make.  Purchased a TRENDNET TW100-S4W1CA RET in November 2013 which looks exactly like the pictures.  Use it as a hub for WDTV, remote computer (100 ft. away), and Direct tv with the WAN connected to a dsl modem 50 ft. away.   Easy and works great.

Does this modem work with osx 10.7.5 ?

I've no idea what the osx 10.7.5 is. I've been using the router for two years with two to three computers hooked up to a cable internet provider. Works well, cheap. Gets hot at first and you smell plastic but that stops after a year or so.
