windows 7 Yes. I have not tried it with 8. Just make sure you have the driver CD or have downloaded them before you load 7 so you can upload the drivers offline.

Will This PCI Adapter plug in OK on a Dell Dimension 4600?

It sure will, unless all the slots have adapters in them, which they probably don't. The 4600 has 3 pci slots. You could have adapters in some or all. Just look inside and see how many slots are empty.
Since the dimension 4600 doesn't have ethernet, I needed this to connect to high speed internet, and it works fine.

Is this compatible with Windows 8 or my Dell inspiron Desktop?

Sure, It should be compatible with most all windows OS's.
As long as the system can find the correct drivers. It will need to go online to do that. Since the system has no ethernet, there will not be drivers already installed. There may be some very generic driver in the OS that will let you go online and find the correct ones.

Question 4

My network adapter is fried.  I need a new one.

Do new ones work in any computer or does it need to be ordered especially for my particular computer?  I'm running Windows 8.  I can provide computer make and model and serial number if necessary.

Network Interface Cards (NIC's), will work interchangeably with different makes and models of PC architecture. The most important thing is making sure that you buy one that will fit in the type of expansion slot that you have available in your PC. For instance - a PCI or PCIe (express) type slot for more recent architecture. Windows 7 and Windows 8 will recognize the new card on boot up and install suitable drivers that allow it to work. No need to bother with accompanying CD's that typically come with these new cards as they often contain "baggage" freeware that's seldom useful and more often loaded with privacy invasion programs. One word of advice: if the NIC that is fried is an "integrated" type (not located in an expansion slot but rather built into the back plane of your PC), be sure to go into the Device Manager in your OS, and disable the built in NIC. Hope this helps.

I have an alienware aurora and just want to make sure that this will work for my computer?

I can't speak for the Alienware Aurora but this PCI gigabit LAN adapter worked well for me.  I put it in an old Lenovo small form factor PC with Win 7 Pro.  As long as you have a PCI slot available and the right drivers, it should work well for you in your Aurora.

According to Trendnet's web site, this product will work with windows 98se to windows 7.  To get accurate support information, it only comes from the horses mouth, ie. manufacturer.

Yes.   The Dell Dimension 9100 has 3 regular PCI slots this will work in.

I'm using this card in a Inspiron 531 with Win 7 without any issues.   I turned off the on board network card in the bios as there was a problem with it.
