Is this Router compatible with Timewarnercable?

Yes, the router is being used with TimeWarner Cable. I'm using a cable modem provide by TimeWarner for internt services, and have the router connected using a cable.

Has anybody used as AP and is so there settings in GUI or do you just turn off DHCP assign an ip and call it a day?

I'm using my TEW-828 as an AP and there are settings in the web-based GUI for either automatic DHCP assignment or setting a static NAT IP address which is what I do -- that way I can keep track of all my network resources. I use a program called netscan.exe (64 bit, Google for it) and search my network from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.200 and the results show me what I have.

Are the antennas detachable?

Not without taking the base apart first.
