Is this router compatible with DSL (Att&T)?

I don't know for sure but if you have a DSL modem you can plug the Ethernet cable directly to the router and set it as is. I'm pretty sure all the routers work either with cable and dsl as it is just a network box and couldn't care less of how the data from the internet is transported. You might have to do some tweaks if you have a DLS modem/router though.

What is the best performing position, horizontal or verticle, for wireless when using the AC 1750?

I honestly don't think it matters whether it's vertical or horizontal. My suggestion would be to centralize the router within your home or business for the best performance results with wireless. Also, proximity is key when using wireless so the closer you are to the router the better performance you will get.  Another side note in the verticals vs horizontal. I prefer laying it horizontal because it gives the product more stability. It's only about an inch think when it's vertical and unless you have a stand the product can easily be knocked over. Has anyone used the 2 USB ports for hooking up a (truly shared) printer or a NAS unit? And how did it work out?

I use a 2 terabyte raid 0 drive for backups and video. I see no real speed difference from internal to external. A shared printer needs 
to be WiFi as every printer I have worked with (many) will only network hard wire or wireless but not both. You can hook a wired printer to your router as a print server.

What is the range of this rout er?

As with any wifi router, the answer to that depends on the location you put it in, and what's around.

With this router, you can just about guarantee a good signal to 40' in the WORST setups - I can pick it up, albeit poorly, nearly 60' away through half a dozen walls at my house.

Many routers will claim 100' or more - but those are in "absolute best case" scenarios, with no interference, no other nearby wifi networks, and no walls in the way.  The honest truth is, it all depends on the working environment that the router is in.  Do the walls have metal supports or wooden?  That'll affect things.  Is there a microwave in the area?  That'll negatively impact the wifi signal, as will most major electrical appliances.  Are there other wifi networks nearby?  That can be a negative as well.

In ending - this is a rock-solid workhorse with good range and good penetration.  The 2.4 GHz band carries very well, and the 5.0 GHz works very well at shorter ranges (it has less penetration and falls off faster than the 2.4 GHz, in my experience).

What is the difference between this and the BUFFALO AirStation AC1300 / N450 4-Port Gigabit Dual Band Wireless Ethernet Bridge and Gaming Adapter  (Router vs Bridge/gaming adapter... aren't they the same .. bot can AP/ and bridge right?

The Buffalo Airstation AC 1750 is secured through a default username and default password that can be changed to your own preferences. The startup is fairly easy, but the device does not come with a service manual. There is a configuration/client access pull-out strip at the bottom of the Airstation to assist with initial setup, after connecting to your computer. The user manual (AirStation WZR-1750DHP / WZR-1166DHP User Manual) should be downloaded ASAP from buffalotech.
